What are Audio Books?

Most people know audio books as Books on Tape. Audio books are usually spoken-word adaptations of books originally produced in print. Audio Books sometimes feature the author's own voice although many are given dramatic readings by one or more actors and/or at times embellished with sound effects.

Who is Simply Audiobooks?

Simply Audiobooks is an audio on demand provider of audio books, lectures, radio shows, and educational programming. Audio content downloaded from Simply Audiobooks can be played back on personal computers, burned to CDs, or PlayForSure portable audio players.

You can download audio content in minutes and listen anytime, anywhere. Cure your daily commute, add some excitement to your time in the gym, or listen while you work.

We are partnered with great publishers like Random House, Simon & Schuster Audio, HarperCollins Inc, Penguin Audio, Time Warner Audiobooks, and many more.

Can I sign up for the Download Club if I live outside of Canada, United States, and the UK?

Yes, however, where you would enter your billing address you will use the address of one of our offices in Canada, US or UK which ever country is closer to you.

Can I Cancel?

Monthly memberships can be cancelled at any time. You can cancel online by going to 'My Account' page or by contacting us. We do not give out partial refunds. When cancelling an annual membership you will be charged as if you were on a monthly plan. (Eg. If you sign up for 12 months of 1 credit a month plan and then cancel after 3 months, we would charge you the monthly rate for those 3 months and refund you the difference.)

How does downloading work?

You can download audio books via Download Club or purchase downloadable audio books A La Carte.

What happens if my credit card expires in the middle of my billing period?

Please contact us and provide us with your new expiry date. If an invalid credit card number or expiry date is entered when your billing date arrives, you will receive a notification email alerting you to call us.

What portable devices are compatible with Simply Audiobooks Downloadable audio books?

What if i don't have a device?

If you're planning on listening to audio books on the go then we recommend you purchase a device. You can get one for around $50 from Amazon or BestBuy.

You can also burn the audio books to CD(s) and listen in your portable CD player, car, home stereo, or on your computer.

Is my iPod compatible?

iPod players are currently not directly compatible with our audio books. Our audio books are encoded in protected WMA format and require Windows Media Player 10 or higher to play, burn, sync.Please visit our iPod page for other options.

Can I listen to my audio books on multiple computers?

Due to our copyright agreements with publishers, it is only possible to download and claim a license of a Simply Audiobooks audio book on one computer. However, we do recommend that our download members make CD back ups of their audio books, which they can listen to in their car, portable CD player, or home stereo.

How many times can I listen, burn, and sync audio books?

There is no limit to how many time you can listen to an audio book. There are some limitations on how many times you can burn your audio book download. Majority of the audio books can be burned up to 3 times; however, some publishers have a limit of 1.5 times.

Do my download credits expire?

Download credits expire after 60 days. Your credits will expire two months after the original billing date. Once you applied a credit against a book you have all the time you want to download it and play it.

Do the audio files ever expire?

No. Once you apply a credit for a downloadable audio book you are purchasing the rights to that audio book and it's yours forever.

What is the bit rate of the audio books?

Majority of our audio books are recorded in 48kbps mono, which is equivalent to 96kbps stereo. 99.9% of devices out there support the bit rate our audio books are recorded in.

What is the average file size of a downloadable audio book?

A 5 CD audio book would be roughly 120MB.

I have downloaded my audio book and the tracks are visually not in order. What do I do?

Please visit the Download Help Center and either send us an email or chat live with one of our support staff.

What file format are the audio books in?

All our downloadable audio books are digitally recorded in (.wma) format.

When I open the downloaded file it asks me to install a skin file that might compromise my computer, what do I do?

The skin file we include with all our audio books are 100% safe and will not compromise your computer in any way. Just click 'Yes' when prompted to install the skin file and proceed to the next step of the download process.

Can I burn the original 150mb or 250mb file I downloaded from your site to back up my audio books?

To ensure that you have the media rights to play the file, you will have to record the audio book to CD through Windows Media Player after you have claimed the license. Failing to do so will result in the audio book not being able to play.
