I loved this book. Easy to listen to...stories were interesting...learned something new.
I first discovered this author via the book Outliers which is spectacular but Blink is also one not to be missed! His method of using explicit examples to illustrate a point is great. He really opens your eyes to your own unconscious.
I found this book/cd very interesting. The material was fascinating and presented in a thorough yet not too long of a fashion. I really liked that the author read his own material and he has a great voice.
I found this very interesting and am actually thinking about how to apply this in the workplace as a team building activity.
Only a few salient points made sprinkled among the 7 CDs - parts were quite boring as the author digressed into tangents. Particularly disliked the parts about facial gestures and musculature (and I have a medical background) since it did not add any value.
There's a certain irony in the fact that this book is about making nearly-instantaneous judgments and that the author makes his otherwise-interesting point through endless, tedious, tiresome, did-I-mention-endless examples. Mr. Gladwell's editors should have thin-sliced his content.
After listening to the Outliers I went back to listen to Blink. It was interesting but not close to as good as the Outliers. For some reason I was expecting take home value and was disappointed.
Everybody "thin slice"...it's a survival attributes passed to us from generations to generation. By default, we don't pay attention to it's potency. What makes this book remarkable is how Malcolm articulately explains Why we need to GREATLY pay attention to it and the consequences ( good or bad )the potent power of thin slicing Of course Now i pay more attention when i thin slice A good book indeed...
While not as interesting as some of Gladwell's other books, still a good read. Blink started out strong but trailed off considerably and was fairly boring towards the end.
I thoroughly enjoyed Blink. Gladwell is very pleasant to listen to, and the content of the book is interesting and thought provoking. I found the material amazingly accessible. Gladwell and his books are so part of our culture now that it's important to be familiar with them just so that we can understand all the references made to them in our daily lives.
Malcolm Gladwell is a staff writer for The New Yorker. He was formerly a business and science reporter at the Washington Post.
