Overview

It seems to happen overnight. One minute your daughter is wearing bunny slippers and demanding bedtime stories. The next, she's wearing a midriff-baring T-shirt and demanding car keys.
8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter takes us shriel by shriek through the process of raising teenage girls, including braces (the most expensive metal on earth), the telephone (seemingly wired to ther nervous system), and of course dating (Rule #2: Keep your hands and eyes off my daughter's body, or I will remove them).

I now have a clue where the sit-com of the same name came from, and it was nice to hear the late John Ritter read the book, but that's about it. The book was just one big cliche' of what we all hear about "the teenage years." It tried to be cute and funny to the point of annoyance. There were a few chuckles but not nearly enough of anything profound or clever to justify the time spent. But, kudos to the author on the commercial success.

I felt a tear well up

I loved it! GREAT book. The late great John Ritter is the perfect narrator for this story and does it so well. With a title like this, I sincerely hope folks aren't thinking this is going to be a deeply moving and inspirational work. It is light hearted and in places REALLY funny. I must confess though, that at the end (and a couple places throughout) I found my self, the father of a five year old daughter, ready to break down. His commentary is so real it hurts a little. It is funny but be subtly reminded that they grow up to fast! Great listen!

Jeff Foxworthy Look out! I have to say this was very enlighting with more than a few chuckles. The story is read by John Ritter (Jack Tripper - 3's Company) and he does a Wonderful Job. You swear he's the father. It's fast paced and light listening. This isn't really a book to gain knowledge of what to do when your daughter starts dating. It's mostly about what happens when faced with the typical scenarios' that our Teenage Daughters put us through. This book is more for all you DAD's out there. I loved the book and I had given it to my husband to listen too. He laughed out loud and said "true" so many times it warmed me to know he actually agreed. I then sent it my brother who also has a Teenage Daughter who is a Junior in H.S. and he also got a good kick out of it that he went to Borders that afternoon & bought the book. This is a Thumbs up for anyone who would listen to this audio. Mostly for all the Dad's. Your not alone out there... @)------)-----------

Forgettable

We thought this might be hilarious and/or insightful, but it turned out to be a wholly forgettable book. Granted, we only have sons... but we were hoping for some guerilla warfare tactics to teach them so they don't have to learn from the girls' daddies (lol). Regardless, we were neither educated nor amused by this book. On to the next...
