Overview

James Herriot has now become firmly established and accepted as one of Darrowby's veterinarians. He's also married, and lives with his wife Helen on the top floor of Skeldale House. His former boss, now partner, Siegfried, lives downstairs with Siegfried's brother Tristan.

James continues the rich and rewarding day-to-day life of a small-town veterinarian, and we journey with him across the dales, meeting a whole new cast of unforgettable characters -- humans, dogs, horses, lambs, parakeets -- all of them drawn with the same infinite fascination, affection and insight that made James Herriot one of the most beloved authors of our time. All all the stories are warmly, evocatively told by the world-renowned "voice" of Dr. Herriot -- Christopher Timothy.

Oh yea. A must hear. Takes the novice a few minutes to get wrapped around Christopher Timothy's fine Darowby brogue but once you're in, you're totally transported and you won't be in a hurry for this to end and the 13 disks are just not enough. Unforgettable. Bought it AFTER listening to it.

I liked this book. The stories were heartwarming, if not as good as the author's other books.

James Herriot brings you back to the English Countryside with his humor, down home love of animals and vintage wit of the people of Darrowby and the surrounding farms. He laughs at himself as easily as we do along with his stories. Some bring tears and many warm your heart. These stories are difficult to share with those who cannot understand the brouge or the terms.. i.e. "Grandma, why would he put his box in his boot".. but worthwhile for young and old if you can get past that.

James Herriot is one of my favorite authors. This book is funny, quaint, & poignant. It's the 2nd book in his series but it easily stands alone. The characters are richly described, unique, and come alive on the pages. If you like animals, ironic humor, & fun reading, this book is for you.

It is a delight to hear these human and caring stories told in a gentle way. They renew my faith in humankind. I look forward to the rest of the series.
