Overview

In the bestselling tradition of David Sedaris, My Horizontal Life author Chelsea Handles boldly returns in this wickedly honest and funny new collection of autobiographical essays, casting a wide net over he good, bad and disastrous experiences throughout the year with hilarious results. Handles recalls the most noteworthy highs and lows of her life to date- including her experiment in romantic diversity by dating red-headed men, an awkward obsession with midgets, and the dog-sitting episode where her boyfriend became overly intimate with a Peekapoo.

Handles lets the laughs rip in these relentlessly entertaining tales, whether it's vacationing with her father who tells the airline staff they're a honeymoon couple to get better seats, or convincing her third-grade classmates that she's starring in Private Benjamin sequel. With its candor and irresistible turns of phrases that have earned Handles a recurring stint as a correspondent on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, listeners will love this deliciously skewed collection full of guilty pleasures.

Love every bit of it - hadn't really listened to Chelsea Handler much but I certainly will now.

really not good. Maybe 10% is pretty funny. Like this sort of book? go with ANYTHING by David Sedaris for something much much much (much!) better.

Complete waste of time

I had always found Chelsea Handler somewhat amusing and thought this book would be entertaining. I was wrong. I couldn't even finish it - 2 discs were all I could stomach. And I "get" Chelsea as another reviewer said, but this entire book is just too mean and vulgar (and I'm not referring to the language, I'm referring to the baseness of the character revealed). Just don't bother - you'll be happier for having missed this one.

Chelsea Lately

Not a fan of this book. I was, however, a fan of hers and was anxious to learn about her. I was not sure if the book manuscript was part of the act, but she came across as a pretty rotten person in the book. It might not be logical, but I try to only like celebs who I feel are decent people as well. If the book was an act, it was not funny, and if it was truthful, there was no real substance to this book.

Vodka?

I love Chelsea and I was able to "get" that she is being sarcastic and overly dramatic - that is what she does. I can just see her deadpan face when she is saying something so utterly ridiculous without a quiver in her voice. I loved the story (stories, really) and wonder if there is even a kernel of truth to any of it. Because if there is - it is hilarious! It was nice light "reading" that I didn't have to sit in the car in the heat to make sure I didn't miss anything.

hilarious!

This book was absolutely hysterical! I loved every minute of it. I like the fact that the Chelsea narrated the book herself. This made it even more comical. I\'m not sure if half of those stories are true but they were funny anyway.

At first, I was skeptical in picking this book because I didn't think I really cared too much for Chelsea Handler's comedy. But, this book mad me laugh so hard, it mad my cheeks and stomach hurt. I thought I was literally going to burst from laughter. I think it's even better as an audio book too because the author reads it as it's meant to be read which makes it even funnier.

I have VERY low standards and I did not even finish listening to the first disk. I thought I would find it amusing, but the prose style was so weirdly self-conscious and stilted and... Anyway, don't bother.

Handler, Chelsea

Handler was born in the suburban town of Livingston, New Jersey in the USA.[3] The youngest of six children, she was raised Jewish by her Mormon mother, Rita, and Jewish father, Seymour.

Handler is a stand-up comedian who has made multiple appearances across America. She was also a regular on the Oxygen Network series Girls Behaving Badly. She has appeared on many shows, including Weekends at the D.L., The Bernie Mac Show and The Practice. She is a regular commentator on E! and Scarborough Country as well as a correspondent on The Tonight Show and has been a guest on Red Eye w/ Greg Gutfeld and The View. Chelsea Handler also appears in her own late night talk show on E! titled Chelsea Lately. Chelsea was a co-host on The View on August 2, 2007 and again on September 5, 2008.

Handler has authored two books on the New York Times Best Seller List. Handler wrote My Horizontal Life: A Collection of One-Night Stands (ISBN 1582346186 ) as her memoir. Handler also wrote Are You There Vodka? It's Me, Chelsea (ISBN 0061173398), a collection of humorous essays. Are You There Vodka hit the NYTimes non-fiction best seller list on May 11, 2008[4] and has already had a print run of 250,000.[5]

In 2007, Handler performed with the Hour Stand-Up Comedy Tour across the U.S.. Her stand-up has been televised on Vh1's Love Lounge, Comedy Central's Premium Blend, and HBO's broadcast of the Aspen Comedy Festival. Chelsea Handler was the host of the highly anticipated Fox show "On The Lot." The show, produced by Steven Spielberg and Mark Burnett, is a competition for aspiring filmmakers who are vying for a chance at stardom. She was replaced after one episode by former Robin & Company entertainment anchor, Adrianna Costa.

In July 2007, Handler began starring on her own half an hour late-night comedy series on E! titled Chelsea Lately. This series places Handler against a slew of male-dominated talk shows, taking both a female approach and adding a considerable amount of sarcasm to the format. On the show's 100th episode, Chelsea revealed to viewers that E! had picked up Chelsea Lately for another 150 episodes.[6]

Since 2007, Handler has appeared in the Internet based program In The Motherhood with Leah Remini and (since January 2008) Jenny McCarthy. The comedic series is about moms, by moms and for moms. On September 8th, 2008, it was announced ABC would be turning In The Motherhood into a series starring Handler, Megan Mullaly, and Cheryl Hines.[1]

Chelsea has confirmed she is dating Ted Harbert, who, as the CEO of Comcast Entertainment Group, oversees E! Entertainment Television.[7] A common speculation is that Handler got her show on the E! Network as a result of dating the CEO, but this rumor was debunked when Harbert says he met Handler at a wrap party for her show, which had already begun production. On the January 29, 2008 episode of Chelsea Lately, she claimed that she was asked to do season six of the hit television series Dancing with the Stars but declined.
