Overview

Paul Madriani is back!

Having moved to San Diego to be closer to the woman in his life, Madriani takes on the case of Jonah Hale, an elderly man in dire straits. Because of the longtime drug addiction of their only child, Jessica, Jonah and his wife have been raising their eight-year-old granddaughter, Amanda. After Jonah wins a multi-million dollar state lottery, Jessica revives her interest in mothering. When Jonah won't deal-maternal rights for a megabucks payoff-Jessica pulls out all the stops.

Enter Zolonda Suade, a flamboyant feminist activist with a talent for making children and their "victimized" mothers disappear. When the next move turns deadly, Madriani finds himself drawn into a web of deceit and high-stakes action, in and out of the courtroom.

Rich with characters drawn from today's headlines, driven by motives both obvious and subtle, "The Attorney" marks the much-anticipated return of Paul Madriani.

This was a bit different story. Enjoyed the court room drama and the hunt for the child. Thought the ethics was a bit loose. Enjoyed listening to the drive around the San Diego area. Looking forward to his next book.

Still a Madriani fan . . . BUT

The ending in this one was at the same time WAY to melodramatic and WAY to anticlimatic. Sound impossible? Well it paints an unbelievably dramatic and unexpected twist at the VERY end, but then drops it there with no further detail. Good 3 star listen, and the narrator makes it better than it would have been, but it isn't MArtini's normal high standard. Good but not close to GREAT!

An Attorney, a Private Detective, Father & Lover - All rolled into one guy. Story was fun to listen to, but not very probable.

Surprised me!

I enjoyed the story, but especially enjoyed that it was an "oh, yeah." In other words, when I found out what had happened, I realized I should have figured it out, but I didn't. Very entertaining.

San Diego Rules!

OK, I used to live there and found myself trying to picture where events were taking place. I liked that Martini had done his research and didn't create new SD locales. Good stuff: interesting storyline, well done details and research, and the story moves fast. Bad stuff: Horrible names (like something out of a bad romance novel), too many coincidences, and a cutesy love story. Overall, well read and entertaining but not Pulitzer material.
