Overview

Attorney Calvin Dexter hangs his shingle in a quiet New Jersey town, has a reasonably successful practice, and takes the hills strong while triathlon training. But Dexter is no ordinary lawyer. On Sundays, he reads the paper and shuffles around his dark, empty house, trying to forget about a life he has lost forever.
Until, of course, Dexter reads something in the papers that sends him the necessary signal. Until one of the handful who know of Dexter’s other life tries to contact him. For in a world that has forgotten right and wrong, few can settle a score like Cal Dexter can.
But the game is changing, and this time CIA agent Kevin McBride must find a way to stop Dexter before his quest for vengeance throws the world into chaos.

Very Good

Frederick Forsyth maintains his legendary streat as the finest writer of international thrillers. This book was very good though slower that his usual but a gazzillion times better than any of James Patterson, Tom Clancy thrillers.

Fascinating!

fascinating plot with an amazing ending! Totally unexpected. Characters are well developed and even though the writer tells the story of each character from a third person prespective, you start to empathize with them.

Excellent Read

A very good story about justice, not revenge. Cal Dexter could easily become a vigilante and no one would fault him, but he crossed that line once and realized there is a better way. This is not one of those “Oh you must take the high road or risk being as bad as the bad guy.” I like that the story was set in recent time with current events and it leaves the reader with a feeling of, “I wonder if something like that really could have happened?”

Cal Dexter is my hero! Forsythe's novel was intriguing and fast-paced with a twist at the ending worthy of Hitchcock. I saw the recent made-for-TV movie of the novel & couldn't believe that they changed the main setting and the ending. What a huge disappointment! The book was great; the only redeeming value of the movie was Sam Elliot as Dexter.

The book was slow most of the time, but got better about the 4th CD... The ending was great.

This was not a normal read for me. I have never before read, or listened to, Forsyth's works. I was not disappointed. The book kept my attention, and the orator was very easy to listen to. If you like a book with a some interesting twists and turns, give it a try.

The Best Book, I personally have listened to in months. I truly could have started listening to it again after the reader said (the end). I have a 1 1/2 hour commute and I would have drove 5 hours to keep listening. What a brilliant, nail bitting experience this book proved to be. Give it 5 stars and a big Texas Yipp-EEE.
