Overview

After news of his mother's weak heart summons him home, globetrotting journalist Roman Chandler loses a coin toss with his brothers that determines who will relinquish his bachelor status to give their mother a grandchild. Roman decides to "settle down" without giving up his travel-intensive job, and as one of the most handsome men in town, he can have his pick of the local women--except for Charlotte Bronson, his high school crush. Thoughts of her parents' miserable long-distance marriage keep Charlotte from accepting Roman's proposal, despite the sexual sparks that fly at their every encounter. Mutual attraction eventually proves too powerful to resist, however, but first Roman must win her trust....

I felt so so about this book. The story was okay, not great, and I agree with other reviewers that I hated the narrator. All of the woman sound old and sort of dowdy. I felt the story was unnecessarily long winded about a lot of things.

As far as romance novels go this is predictable and kind of silly. The kind that makes you laugh at the "sexy" parts. I'll have to remember to avoid this author. Oh, and the mother in this - manipulative doesn't begin to describe her. Are boys really that easy for a mother to control?

Read the book, don't listen!

This would have likely been a great read! I love Carly Phillips, but I hated the narrator. I found it more than a bit freaky to listen to this guy trying to do the female voices! I hated listening to the bedroom scenes! This book would have been much better if a female would have done the narrating. The way the main male character is written, you would have thought his voice would have been very deep and masculine, but the actor's voice did not match the book's description. Read the book, do not rent it on audio!

This is a great read/listen. You can picture yourself there...makes your heart race with some of the descriptions. Found myself slowing down to listen just a little longer as I am travelling home. Don't call me I won't answer with this book.

I just adored this one. It was worth the wait to finally get it. It is sweet, silly, romantic, completely ridiculous and adorably engaging. The narration was great. This one should be on everyones rental list.

Predictable but OK..

This book was good light hearted reading. Predictable and humorous at times. This book is read by the man who is the voice of Bob the Builder, the kid's program. Listening to the steamy scenes with Bob the Builder's voice was difficult to get through, to say the least! But, all in all, ok book.

Phillips, Carly

Carly Phillips (born July 7, ?? in New York) is the pen name used by Karen Drogin to write over twenty-three best-selling contemporary romance novels.

Drogin was born prematurely and weighed only 3 pounds, 7 ounces. She and her younger brother were raised in Spring Valley, New York. She attended Brandeis University, where she met her husband. She later attended Boston University School of Law, and earned her law degree from New York University. Drogin passed the New York State Bar Exam in 1991, and was sworn in at the same time as John F. Kennedy, Jr. Although she enjoyed law school, she realized quickly that she did not enjoy practicing law. After the birth of her first child in 1992, Drogin became a stay-at-home mother and eventually decided to try writing. It took seven years, during which time she completed ten books, but in 1998 she finally sold a novel to Harlequin for their Temptation Line. In 2002 Drogin's first single-title novel, The Bachelor, was selected a book pick for Kelly Ripa's "Reading With Ripa" book club. This big break allowed the book to rise as high as number four on the New York Times Bestseller List (tied with a book by fellow romance novelist Nora Roberts).

Drogin promotes awareness for Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the Humane Society, and the American Heart Association. She is a huge fan of the New York Mets and the Boston Red Sox.
