Overview

In the waning days of World War II, Hitler gave his diary to a young aide for safekeeping. Now it's threatening to resurface, with explosive contents: the details of a meeting between emissaries of Hitler and Roosevelt to reach an armistice and turn their collective efforts against the Soviet Union. The American representative: someone very close to none other than the current president, Jake Cazalet. Powerful enemies of Cazalet will do anything to get their hands on that diary - and it is up to White House operative Blake Johnson and his colleague in British intelligence, Sean Dillon, to make sure they don't.

After reading the reviews of Bad Company, I hesitated in requesting the audio book. I enjoy Jack Higgins stories so I decided to go ahead and give it a try. I was prepared for a bad reading but must admit it was much worse than I had imagined. I must agree with all the reviewers that Patrick Macnee's reading was absolutely horrible. I shall put him on my avoid list! I took this as a challenge and concentrated on the story and tuned out the bad reader. The story line was interesting and I did manage to complete the book. I feel as if I accomplished a difficult task. I have listened to other Higgins books read by Dick Hill or Nicol Williamson who did a good job reading. I hope the people that hire the readers avoid Patrick Macnee in the future.

I cannot stay focused on any book that Patrick McGee reads ... his accent takes away from the book.

I am a big Jack Higgins fan and have read most of his books, however, this is the second of his books on tape that I have returned unfinished. Both books I returned were read by Patrick McNee, who I think is one of the poorest readers I have heard. He forgets that it's about the book not him. His accents are very overdone and sometimes he got his Italian and German accents intermixed in this book. He emotes! I would like to listen to other Jack Higgins books, but not if they are read by Patrick McNee. I have to give this book 1 star because of McNee's poor reading.

Oh, Jack, please don't let this be the future of your books! I could barely slog through the first CD; sent back Part II as soon as it arrived. I usually fall deep into Dillon's adventures, but this one got off to such a tedious start that not even the enigmatic Sean could bring me back. Don't waste your time.

Found it hard to follow and not very entertaining. Sent it back after listening to 5 tracks of disk 1.
