Overview

There were no surprises in Gatlin County.
We were pretty much the epicenter of the middle of nowhere.
At least, that's what I thought.
Turns out, I couldn't have been more wrong.
There was a curse.
There was a girl.
And in the end, there was a grave.

Lena Duchannes is unlike anyone the small Southern town of Gatlin has ever seen, and she's struggling to conceal her power, and a curse that has haunted her family for generations. But even within the overgrown gardens, murky swamps and crumbling graveyards of the forgotten South, a secret cannot stay hidden forever.

Ethan Wate, who has been counting the months until he can escape from Gatlin, is haunted by dreams of a beautiful girl he has never met. When Lena moves into the town's oldest and most infamous plantation, Ethan is inexplicably drawn to her and determined to uncover the connection between them.

In a town with no surprises, one secret could change everything.

I can\'t believe I waited so long to read this book! I enjoyed every minute of it, and it was long. Not that that\'s a bad thing. Most books these days feel rushed, but Beautiful Creatures\' longer length not only gave me the time to fall in love with the Ethan and Lena, but to understand why they fell in love with each other. That\'s something I feel is missing from most books these days. The authors of this novel really kept their characters connected—linking Ethan and Lena\'s families together before they even knew each other! Each character had a distinct voice, which really set this book apart. My favorite character was probably Amma, because I never knew what she was going to say or do, even in the end. The listening experience for this book was phenomenal. I\'m positive that had I only been reading this book it would have played like a movie in my mind because of its beautifully detailed descriptions, but getting to hear the eerie music, and amazingly timed sound effects put this audiobook over the top! It was beautifully produced. I can\'t wait to get my hands on book two!

I am Loving this Book! The Characters have some depth and it\'s not a fluff romance.

This book isnt as fast paced as most young adult books, but its nice to actually see the characters build a relationship based on something real as opposed to the way someone looks or smells. And the characters are likable instead of characters you spend most of the book thinking DONT DO IT! And then they always do it. A refreshing change.
