Overview

In 1828, few white men dared to venture into the immense, unsettled region west of the Mississippi. And of those who did, only courageous men like Nathaniel King had the skills and strength to survive the harsh, frozen wilderness. But when three vicious trappers ambushed him and kidnapped his pregnant wife, Winona, King faced the greatest challenge of his life. For if Nate did not rescue Winona and their unborn child, the life he had worked so hard to build would be worthless.

This is not a genre I usually listen to. During the first five minutes into the CD, I was contemplating returning the selection. However, I stuck with it and am glad I did. While the story line is fairly common, I found myself interested in the realistic details of survival that our forefathers faced. We take so much for granted....and while we stress over what to serve at our next party, they stressed over having anything to eat at all. They were always so close to starvation. The author helped put things in perspective for me.
