Overview

Toby Peters looked at the glossy photograph. Yes, that was Errol Flynn in the picture. And, yes, there was a girl with him...a very young girl. They were both birthday naked, and seemed to be enjoying themselves. No wonder Flynn and Warner Brothers were nervous.

Toby found the picture where he was supposed to find it. He wasn't planning to get hit on the head, though, or to find a corpse when he awoke'the first in a series of corpses scattered all over Hollywood.

The trail Toby follows in order to clear Flynn'and himself'takes him throughout the film colony and, finally, onto the set of The Maltese Falcon, where Bogie, Lorre, and Greenstreet find themselves playing roles that weren't rehearsed, but whose execution must be picture perfect.

'Lane's portrayal of Peters is picture perfect. His gruff, matteroffact voice characterizes the hardboiled investigator very well. Lane's pace is fastmoving, keeping up with the action and suspenseful climax of the story.''AudioFile

A very cool story realistically incorporating the Hollywood stars of the day. Plenty of action and Peters is a likeable hero. Pop it into your portable player and head for the beach!

Bullet for a Star

  • Book Rating: 4/5

Stuart Kaminsky has a way of taking people and incidences from the past putting his particular brand on them and relating stories that could have happened just the way he tells them. Having movies stars from the past as minor characters in his plots spices up the stories and gives insights to past heros.
