Overview

For Nina Reilly, the mountain town of Lake Tahoe is home. It’s where she forged a successful career as a tough, resourceful attorney - and raised her teenage son, Bob, alone. Back from a stint in Monterey, where her love life took a tumble, Nina has returned to her Tahoe law office with her old friends Sandy Whitefeather and Sandy’s son, Wish. It isn’t long before she has a new client whose wife was shot and killed during a casino-district robbery two years before. The police have no suspects, and the robbery victims, three students, lied about their identities and are hiding outside California and the reach of the court. Two of the witnesses have fled to a village not far from the home of Bob’s father, Kurt Scott, in Germany. As Nina tries to unravel the mystery of one violent Tahoe night, a harrowing journey begins - one that takes her from the dark underworld of Tahoe’s casinos to the halls of a prestigious East Coast university to Europe and an emotional reunion with Kurt. As old feelings are rekindled, Nina’s case turns violent. Everyone has something to hide - the brilliant but unstable mathematics student who has made an astonishing discovery, the owner of a motel where the shooting took place, and the shooter, who has turned the whole case into a gigantic lie.

A Case of Lies

This is possibly the worst book I have ever attempted to read (listen to). Talk about repetitious. I listened to CD after CD and finally gave up a little over half way through the first 9 CDs when I realized that the author was STILL introducing characters; I couldn't tell the good guys from the bad guys; and, I had no idea what the plot line was. Although I am not suggesting that this author get another line of work, I do think a few courses in the craft of writing would be most helpful to O'Shaughessy and much appreciated by those who plan to purchase future works. I won't be reading any more of Perri's work.

All of the Perry O'Shaughnessy books are excellent. Fast paced with plenty of suspense. A hard to put down the book.

Right. They splash a guy on the side of the road and he puts a bomb under their car next place they stop. Of course. And this was just the Beginning of a long and totally illogical sequence of events. But I did listen to the entire thing, much to my embarrassment. I have since bought a number of books to keep on hand so I don't HAVE to keep listening to such sloppy and hackneyed writing. It was only slightly better than the stupid car commercials on FM radio.

This book bored the heck out of me. I could not wait for it to be over. Why did I listen to the whole thing? Because I had nothing else available at the time!

Fairly good story, but unless you are into math, on a very advanced level all the theories and quantum physics is boring and takes away from an otherwise of book. I wouldn't waste my time when there are sooo many other great books to listen to.

Another book of this author that I really enjoyed. The only downfall was all the math jargon. Way above my head and I found myself not paying attention at that point. Was worth the listen!

Nina showed both the strong and soft side of women. I liked the story and appreciated a smart women lead. The story moved at a nice pace.

I keep saying I will not read any more by this author. Once again, this was too unrealistic to be entertaining and not well written. I found myself laughing at some of the cliched dialogue.
