Charles Paris, middle-aged actor turned amateur sleuth, is on vacation at the English seaside. Seeking entertainment at the local music hall, he endures a series of mediocre acts, hoping that the man given star billing will be worth watching. This performer, Bill Peaky, comes on stage, grasps the microphone, and drops dead. Was it an accident due to faulty wiring? Charles isn’t so sure.
