Overview

Susan Michaels was once the hottest reporter on the Beltway Beat until a major scandal ruined her life and left her writing stories about alien babies and Elvis sightings. Life as she once knew it is over, or so she thinks until she gets a lead on the biggest story in town: The Seattle Slayer. She heads to the local animal shelter, expecting a tip on the latest rash of killings. Instead, she gets a story about the mayor feeding citizens to a ring of vampires... yeah. Just another day in her life.
Then she gets talked into adopting a cat she's allergic to. Her first thought is to neuter the cat. But when he turns out to be a gorgeous shapeshifting man who claims to be an immortal vampire slayer she thinks: not so fast. Next thought: seek professional help.
Susan doesn't know what to believe, but as she's drawn into a paranormal world, she comes to realize that the story that could bring her credibility is too unbelievable to expose. Now it's no longer a question of bringing the truth to her readers, it's a matter of saving lives and souls, and her only ally is a man she's allergic to. In the world of the Dark-Hunters, it's always dangerous. But never more so than when one very human woman can shatter their entire world with just one story. The only question is... will she? "Dark Side of the Moon is full of Sherrilyn Kenyon's trademark sexy humor and breathtaking imagination.

Mediocre Book or Bad Abridgment?

This is the first book that I have listened to from this author. I'm guessing from the other reviews that most of the problems I had with the book are due to it being a very poor abridgment. I often felt like I missed sections of the book. I'd rewind to make sure I didn't space out, but sure enough there wasn't anything there to miss. I might try reading some of the books if my library has them to see if that makes a difference because the story line seemed to really have potential.

I like the dark hunter series. Some of it is predictable but Ms. Kenyon pulls you in each time with something new. I want to see what Striker has in store for Nick. Oh yeah.

The end was predictable and that disapointed me. You knew Nick was going to be seduced by Striker and you can almost bet in the next book at the very end Nick will have a sudden burst of conscience and try to make things right with the Dark Hunter.

I have read quite a few of the Dark Hunter books and would rate this one of the best....They make the freeway seem like a trip to the library....looking forward to reading more.

Read books instead.

I am a big fan of Sherillyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter Series, but the series seems to be getting stale and this abridged version omits the best part of Kenyon's writing--the steamy relationships developed between the Dark Hunters and their ladies. I usually read the book version before audio but didn't this time. I should have skipped the CD's. Kenyon usually writes her female heroines to be sharp, witty and humorous, but Susan was so sarcastic that it was hard to listen to. i.e.,they're in the midst of a life and death battle and Susan gets ticked off & throws a hissy fit about a comment her dark hunter makes, unrealistically halting said life and death scene so these two can bicker about their relationship. I couldn't believe how sissified the D.H. character had become. The story didn't flow well, had abrupt scene changes that left you wondering if your CD was messing up, and generally had a boring plot line.

If you're not familiar with the Dark Hunter Series, then you may find yourself pretty confused, especially since this is an abridged novel. The narrator was pretty good and varied her voice enough for the listener.

Awful.

What was I thinking? I kept listening out of astonishment that it could be so bad. It was worse.
