Dead as a Doornail

Overview

Mixing old European myths and legends with modern American pop culture, incorporating influences ranging from blaxploitation movies and erotic novels to tabloid staples like UFOs and Elvis, authors are creating a new mythology for the strip-mall, tract-house, cellphone America of the new millennium. One of the best-known and best writers of the new American mythology is Charlaine Harris. Dead as a Doornail is the fifth novel in her Anthony Award-winning Southern Vampire series. It continues the story of psychic waitress Sookie Stackhouse.

It's the reason I read. I was entertained and sucked right into Sookie's life. I'm not the only neurotic and it was fun.

I rented this book because it had 5 stars. Big mistake. Worst book I have ever listened to. I'm not opposed to strip malls, tract-houses and I certainly could not live without my cellphone. But please, the author treated her audience like they were lobotomized drugged out zombies who would happily listen to any drool. I listened to the whole thing and it was very painful. The person reading it added to the pain.

This is the first book in this series I've read. I really enjoyed it. Now I need to get the rest of the series. I enjoyed Soukie and her friends.
