Overview

The Piper family is steeped in secrets, lies, and unspoken truths. At the eye of the storm is one secret that threatens to shake their lives--even destroy them.

Set on stormy Cape Breton Island off Nova Scotia, Fall on Your Knees is an internationally acclaimed muligenerational saga that chronicles the lives of four unforgettable sisters. Theirs is a world filled with driving ambition, inescapable family bonds, and forbidden love.

Compellingly written, by turns menacingly dark and hilariously funny, this is a tale of five generations of sin, guilt, and redemption.

A superbly crafted novel about the terrible pain inflicted upon a family bound by adherence to inflexible cultural and religious strictures.

I found this book very hard to get interested in, and as a result, I sent it back without finishing.

I did not particularly enjoy this book. There were times when it was so disturbing that I almost quit listening to it. It is a depressing story about life with an incestuos father. The narrator was very good I must say.

To me the story began very slow and convoluted. I listened at first just to see where the author was going and many times wondered, "Why?" Talk about dysfunctional family. The Pipers wrote the book. Not sure if I would look for anything else written by this author.

It was hard for me to put down the book. It is a very tragic story, but what a story! I strongly recommend it.

Redemption and realism is wanting...

It is hard to believe that this fairly innocent young couple could bear so much disaster. The characters are memorable, but they are not really believable. Every sexual deviance imaginable is present in this family. At many points during the book I thought to myself, "no, the author isn't going to go there." But, yes, she does. The father is the most perplexing to me. His development does not make sense. The reasons for his actions given by the narrator don't seem to correlate psychologically. The author does an expert job of helping the reader to like the father, while detesting his "ways." Yet, this is overshadowed by the fantastic unrealistic plot turns and character development. The character's reactions to situations in the book seem out of character from what you understand, and sometimes seem pyschotic. Furthermore, I am mystified on the author's point of view. What are we to make of this human disaster? Overall, this is a decidedly poor to mediocre book.

Pretty disturbing

I really disliked this book. I was very curious to find out how this story would end but found that the story line was strange and frankly I think parts of it were disgusting. Menacingly dark would be accurate but hilariously funny?? I didn't find anything funny about it. Parts of it were just gross and disturbing. I would not reccoment this book.

The book was horrible. The characters were unlikeable, the scenarios were unbelieveable, and the beginning was such a drag that I seriously contemplated not finishing the book (which is something that I never do). I should have stuck with my first impulse.

This book had a surprise in each chapter. Lots of twists and turns that kept you wondering what will happen next. Some things were easy to figure out others more complex.

This was a hard book to follow, but by the 2nd CD, I was determined to figure out where this all went and where it ended. It was a good story, although it did take its weird twists and turns. I am not sure I would recommend it, as it was a wierd storyline. Then ending was good. I guess if you had nothing else to read or listen to this would work....Odd, yes it was Odd.
