Overview

A seasoned marriage counselor says people feel most loved in a marriage in one of five ways: quality time, words of affirmation, gifts, acts of service, and physical touch. Though we have a primary love language, we can learn a second language so that our spouse's needs are met. It's all about giving a little here and there, and accepting that our spouse's preferred channel may be different from ours. Though the author's life work is based on Christian principles, his ideas and personal style will resonate with people of all faiths and levels of involvement in organized religion. Whether your marriage needs a tune-up or a major overhaul, these are powerful prescriptions delivered by a genial, wise man. I got the abridged version. I think this book was amazing. I tried the love languages with my fiance and I saw an immediate change in him. We just weren't speaking the right language. I even shared this with family and friends and it improved their relationships as well. I'm truly grateful to have purchased this book because it has saved my relationship and others. I think if you try the five specific languages depending on which is yours or spouses, Quality time, words of affirmation, acts of service, etc. You certainly won't regret it.

Gary Chapman breaks down why we sometimes fail to communicate with each other. He describes 5 "love languages" and why we need to know both our own love langhuage, and that of our spouse. It was insightful, and made a difference in my marriage.

This is another book that should be required reading for married couples. My only complaint is that the audio recording seemed outdated, but the content is 5 stars. I ordered the book in print so I can review it again, with my highlighter (and husband:). As soon as I figured out what my husband's primary love language was, I began applying Dr. Chapman's suggestions, and the results were amazing!! My next goal is to teach my husband what MY primary love language is, and how he can apply it. This book is personal library keeper.

Amazingly simple but powerful paradigm to view your relationship through. Even if you don't feel like you speak one of these languages, you may be surprised to find your spouse does.
