One of the best O'Brien books, I've read so far, mainly because of the huge variety of experience (Not just one long battle scene). The last part of the novel covers the War of 1812 and the battle between the Brit ship Shannon and the USS Chesapeake. This is historical fiction, but the factual version of this battle is covered in Ian Toll's book, "Six Frigates: the founding of the Us Navy" By accident I had both books at the same time and enjoyed hearing both versions. O'Brien was accurate though.
