This is a nice easy listening book if you don't want alot of "overhead". The characters are superficial and the overall plot is typical; boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy get girls back. The plot is very light and see-through. After listening to Jim Dale for the last 4 months (whole Harry Potter series), this narrator was very hard to listen too. Her character's "voices" were not consistent and overall she did not have a "depth" to her reading.
I couldn't get through the first disk. The story was interesting but the dialogue was totally unbelievable. Ms Garwood obviously has no ear for men's conversations. They came out sounding opraphied.
Very exciting! I loved the fast pace of the storyline!
Why did it have to be abridged!!! Great story. The narrator sucks you in right from the start. The way the plot draws itself out is very sneaky. It's not the storyline that you would expect. As the first in the Buchanan series it's a great start. (For your information it's Heartbreaker, Mercy, Killjoy, and Murder List...all of them great). A definite must listen. It's suspenseful, spicy, intriguing...with a touch of humor as well. An overall great job!
Another great book by Julie Garwood. This book also keeps you on the edge of your seat. This killer is mad! It's a great read. Julie's books have so far, all used some of the same people (Monk, The Buchanans). It's kind of neat to see who she will use in her next book. Great book.
My wife loves Julie Garwood, and recommended this book as a good place to start. I thought it would be nice to discuss the book with her, so I gave it a shot. It was good, but by no means great. The ending was predictable, except for a single twist thrown from left field at the last minute, with no real foreshadowing. The romantic scenes were practically Harlequin romance, and Julie Garwood could use some serious time talking to men about how they think, because her presentation of the male psyche was sorely lacking. Still, the story was interesting, if not terribly surprising, and the characters were endearing. A word of warning, though... the female protagonist of the book is very similar to Garwood's later female protagonists, so I'm hesitant to continue reading her novels. The leading ladies all seem to be cut from the same mold.
I loved this book. Great listen too. Nick is slow but comes thru..
I loved listening to this book. It was abridged well, and there very few spots where you were left wondering what they had left out. The reader did an excellent job and it was easy to keep track of who was doing what. I enjoyed the suspense in the plot, and I enjoyed the love story as well. I think anyone who enjoys mysteries would enjoy the book, and people who like contemporary romance will enjoy it, too.
Good book. Very suspenseful. Good storyline. Worth listening to.
"Julie Garwood has enchanted readers since her first novel was published in 1985; today there are more than fifteen million copies of her books in print. In addition to Come the Spring and her #1 New York Times bestselling Clayborne Brides trilogy (One Pink Rose, One White Rose and One Red Rose), her previous novels include eleven other New York Times bestsellers: The Bride, Guardian Angel, Honor's Splendour, The Gift, The Prize, The Secret, Castles, Saving Grace, Prince Charming, For the Roses (which was adapted as a Hallmark Hall of Fame television special, ""Rose Hill""), and The Wedding."
