Overview

Since Bridget Jones's Diary there hasn't been anything as original as this smart and funny debut novel about a young woman experiencing the trials and tribulations of the L.A. dating scene.Benjamina Franklin is a star journalist who chronicles her dating disasters for Filly, a women's magazine. When Benjamina meets Max, she believes she has finally met the man of her dreams. And just in time--her little sister's wedding is only a few months away. The only problem is that Max turns out to be, in a word, younger. A lot younger. Soon he begins to exhibit classic signs of Benjamina's worst nightmare: male commitment phobia. Will Max leave her to be single and broken-hearted? Or will Benjamina come to realize that her life is full without a pseudoboyfriend? Women everywhere will laugh and cry along with Benjamina as she navigates the highs and lows of the modern dating world.

Wow-this wasn't so much about how to meet cute boys as it was about how to act like a selfish, childish, whore. This is one of the times when I wish I would have been actually reading a book - I could have skipped over the filthy language instead of having the assault on my ears over and over again. It gets two stars because the reader was good (the writing wasn't her fault). Don't waste your time on this one.

Realistic View of Romance

I'm giving this book four-stars because because it had very realistic characters unlike most romance novels. The female lead reminded me of myself at times and many of my girlfriends, but not in a good way. You see exactly what she is doing wrong and want her to stop, but she doesn't and that is frustrating because we are conditioned that everything will end perfectly. It's not really a fantasy in that regard but is a fun glimpse into the lifestyles of the current twenty-somethings.

Started off slow, but built up nicely. Then came the ending. What a let down for me. It ended and I felt that there should have been another chapter at least. I did enjoy it, but felt let down at the end -

Cute, but a bit slow. I felt like I kept waiting for the punchline. I liked the reader. She kept it upbeat and entertaining. I would recommend the book for someone who wants something VERY lighthearted and VERY light on the brain cells.
