Wasn't scary like I thought it would be. But was okay.
I just could not get into this book at all and was very confused. I sent it back before I finished the first CD
I really enjoyed this book from start to finish. It kept me wanting more with each new twist and turn.
I forgot that I'd read (listened to) one of her books before. Otherwise I wouldn't have listened to this one. It was even worse! I couldn't even listen to the last few disks. The characters are shallow. The dialog is repetitive. Did I mention the dialog is repetitive? She needs a thesaurus in the worst way. How does someone with such a limited vocabulary (if I heard "strode" or "gaze" one more time I might have vomited) get published? And not just once! How does she do it? Does she have a doting uncle in "the biz?" Maybe she's paying the publisher... Also, why is this in the thriller/suspense category? It was neither. It is more of a romance novel, and it's not even good at that! If you have half a brain and would like to turn what remains into mush, give this mindless drivel a listen. Otherwise stay away... Stay far away.
I thought the book was very hard to get through. The majority of the text was dull & VERY repetitive conversation. The plot is more suited for a comic book. And the villain is only rivaled only by Austin Power's Dr. Evil for his unexplained desire to be evil solely for the sake of being evil.
This was one of the most misguided books I've heard. The initial promise of suspence is lost in the drawn out and predictible romance. I will be skeptical of future books by this author.
I guess I am the lone dissenter. If Sophie said shut up one more time, I was going to throw the disk out of the window. This book will keep me from reading any more of Iris Johansen's work.
This was a very good book; suspenseful, intriguing and kept me on the edge of my seat.
Iris Johanson can write!!!! This book was awesome. The romance was predictable as it is in all of her books, you know it's going to happen and you can't wait but the terror and the intrigue are intense and scary, kept me awake! Well Done!
I haven't read or heard much of Iris Johansen's stuff, but this book will change all that!! I was blown away by the story line, excellent!! What an imagination!! Highly recommend this book, I listen to books while running in the morning, this book got me out the door early so I could listen to the next CD!!!
Johansen began writing after her children left home for college. She first achieved success in the early 1980s writing category romances. In 1991, Johansen began writing suspense historical romance novels, starting with the publication of The Wind Dancer. In 1996 Johansen switched genres, turning to crime fiction, with which she has had great success. She had seventeen consecutive New York Times bestsellers as of November 2006.[1]
Johansen lives in Georgia and is married. Her son, Roy Johansen, is an Edgar Award-winning screenwriter and novelist. Her daughter, Tamara, serves as her research assistant.
