Overview

If opposites attract, Ellie and Dan are perfect for each other. She's impulsive; he follows all the rules. Ellie is a virtual orphan, whereas Dan's family is as close-knot as they come. At first, Ellie is thrilled to be accepted into the Cooper clan and embraces Dan's mom, Linda, as the mother she never had --until she begins to realize that Linda's "mothering" is far more intrusive than even the best daughter-in-law can handle. What can Dan and his mother possibly have to talk about on the phone twice a day? And how has the intimate civil ceremony Ellie always dreamed of turned into a black-tie affair that would rival a royal wedding?

I was surprised at the emotion that was emitted from this book regarding the relationship of a new daughter-in-law and the mother of the husband. Over all the book was captivating and showed just how people can precisve other people's feeling and thoughts without meaning to cause harm. Ellie who thought her life was now going to be just like she had also dreamed finds that she can't express her true emotions about her future mother-in-law. Dan her husband wont take a stand between Ellie's feelings and his mother's feelings. Only tradgey and an unexpected shock with one of Ellie's friends shows the woman that life is real and boundries need to be set to have the perfect marriage and relationship with the family.

This was my first Jane Green novel. I loved it! The writing was very easy to listen too and the narrator was excellent. I loved her Britsh accent. It really added to the feel and ambiance of the novel. If others say this is the worst of Jane Green's novel I will surely read/listen to the rest. What a great portrayal of a normal woman's life and feelings.

This was not what I was expecting. I thought it was going to be funnier. I did like it but didn't think it was great. This is the first book by this author that I have read/listened too. I would probably listen to another one, but not right away. The story was a good one, but when you are expecting something light and it isn't it is hard to continue on. However, I still did enjoy the book, it was just not what I was expecting.

LOVE Jane Green Books

I love all Jane Green Books! I think she is a fabulous author and this book was a good read. It started off a little interesting to me, and the main character, Elle eventually I thought to myself is so picky...but as the book went on, she really opened her eyes to all the situations and it was interesting to see how she changed throughout the book. When I thought I was totally right about what was going to happen next, I was wrong, and shocked! I think Jane Green keeps the readers engrossed on what happens next. Although this is not her Best book, Jemima J was my most favorite book, but I love Jane Green's style of writing. In my opinion good book, great author! It took a while to get used to the narrator, but I adjusted and ended up really enjoying her voice changes. ;-) Enjoy!

I usually love Jane Green's books, but I was telling a friend earlier today, this was my least favorite of all of her books. In fact, by the time I got to disc 6, I just was not interested any more -- and I just wanted to get to the end -- so I skipped #s 7 and 8!Not crazy about the main characters -- we don't learn enough about Ellie to really care about her -- and Dan -- is not developed at all -- you wonder why she ever fell in love with him based on how he handles the whole mother issue -- and I don't want to give away too much of the plot -- but while I thought Ellie over-reacted to some situations for much of the book -- she was too much of a pushover at the end. Plus, the book was very predictable.

If I wanted to listen to a story about dysfucntional families, I'd have read my own family history or that of most of my friends as at least they'd be plausable. With the exception of 2 characters, the balance are spineless, immature pathetic children! I am not sure who was the most irksome. The wimpy Dan, who is still ambilacally attached to his mother, his wimpy and pathetic spineless shameful father, the I am a leech and cannot grow up brother, the most annoying mother/mother in law in the world or the main character, who truly is a shrew. I really kept hoping that it'd get better. What it got was more and more annoyed!!! Sorry! I have red/listened to her others and liked them, so go figure!
