Overview

Since the publication of his first book, The Spirit of Zen in 1936, Alan Watts has brought the essential teachings of the East to generations of seekers, suggesting the need to "go out of your mind in order to come to your senses." Carefully distilled from hundreds of hours of never-before-released material, Out of Your Mind presents a philosophical tour de force from this legendary self-described "spiritual entertainer" – 12 lucid sessions sparking insights into the nature of reality; death and rebirth; the dilemma of polarity; the suspension of judgment; the art of contemplation; and much more.

not as smart as I thought I was

A friend during college recommended that I read Alan Watts. I figured at that time that I was just too dense to grasp the meaning of the books. Now in my mid-50's with a lot of exerience under my belt, I decided to give the recordings a chance. What can I say? He is so rambling and dry in places that I had a hard time even paying attention, let alone processing the information. Some of the Zen and Hindu background is interesting but not enough to make me see how we are part of the universe. I am very aware of quantum physics and consider myself a pantheist so these concepts are not foreign to me, but if I had not heard them before Mr Watts, it surely would not have opened my eyes. If you have great concentration and lots of time to kill these recordings will be right up your alley.

If your interested in insight meditation, this is a very interesting commentary into the true nature of the world. No specific meditation instruction, but not needed.
