Excellent bio. Well written and very informative. Presents a balanced view of the man and the soldier.
George C. Scott, it has been said, "out-Pattoned" Patton in the movie & there have been a number of biographies already published about this complex man. But for all that, Axelrod still brings out new information, new perspectives & an interesting read. Some of the incidents depicted in the movie did not happen entirely the way portrayed (surprise!)or in the order shown. Even being in the Army on active duty hasn't taught me everything - I have learned much I didn't know. Surprisingly, Axelrod doesn't include the story of Patton's rescue of the Lippizaner horses (covered nicely in several journals & magazines) but the rest of the book suits nicely & for those interested in military history or biographies of complex characters, this book will satisfy.
a good general overview. Nothing new, but entertaining.
