Overview

In her most provocative book yet, Dr. Laura urgently reminds women that to take proper care of their husbands is to ensure themselves the happiness and satisfaction they yearn for in marriage.

Women want to be in love, get married, and live happily ever after. Yet disrespect for men and disregard for the value, feelings, and needs of husbands has fast become the standard for male-female relations in America. Those two attitudes clash in unfortunate ways to create struggle and strife in what could be a beautiful relationship.

Countless women call Dr. Laura, unhappy in their marriages and seemingly at a loss to understand the power they have over their men to create the kind of home life they yearn for. Now, in The Proper Care and Feeding of Husbands, Dr. Laura shows you how to wield that power to attain all the sexual pleasure, intimacy, love, joy, and peace you want in your life. With real-life examples -- and real-life solutions -- Dr. Laura’s simple principles have changed the lives of millions. Now they can change yours.

proper care and feeding of husbands

Okay book with good information but it certainly doesn't cover everything about every husband. Seemed to me that Dr. L focused more on how wives could improve their attitude and didn't address what a wife does with a non responsive husband.

I found this book to be very one sided , I understand some of her reasoning on certain issues but I think that she forgets that there are two people in a marriage! Over all I think that this book was just ok!

I found this book helpful, and funny, and a great investment of my time. Dr. Laura gets right to her point, and doesn't mince words. I don't always agree with what she says, but the meaning behind this book is to respect and be kind to your loved ones, even if it's not in vogue at the time. Great idea.

[abridged] Fantastic book! I convinced my wife to listen to the book as a birthday present to me. She actually agreed with Dr. Laura and promised to take better care of her husband. Wow!

I enjoyed the audio book. There were a lot of issues that i had never thought of. I recommend it to everyone because it could be useful for men to hear the their thoughts and concerns and being heard. Women can benefit from it because it will help in understanding their men and their emotional needs.

At first, I thought I was listening to a right-wing wacko...... but if you can make it past the harsh attacks and condemnations of all things that might be definable in terms of the feminist movement, there are some golden nuggets on the marital relationship within -- you just need to get through the first couple of chapters to get to the nuggets. Worth the read.

I listed to Dr. Laura when I lived in Seattle. I never found her on the radio on OH. So, I was anxious to reconnect. She has good insight that makes sense ... and is similar to Dr. Phil where she doesn't pull punches and is blunt and too the point. But, sometimes, I wonder about her. She seems to advocate being the stay at home wife ... but yet she has a practice, a business, etc. Seems a little hypocritical.

brief and helpful

Laura is annoying, but usually correct in her theories. We women can be you-know-whats sometimes, whether it's PMS or dieting that's driving us to take everything out on our husbands. I saw myself in this book. I also saw my husband, a simple creature with basic needs and no psychic abilities. Tell men what you want and give him what he needs, love and to be made to feel a champion.

She has a point!

Dr. Laura does have a point that woman tend to set the tone for the househould. She has some great suggestions but I do not think they are realistic. Some marriages may be helped but overall she tends to go off on a tangent of how woman can fix all the problems related to the home life and that they are responsible for the root of most problems in the household. Not a book for a staunch feminist. She actually quotes religion, too. Kind of out of character for her usual lectures.
