The Purpose-Driven Life will help you understand why you are alive and God’s amazing plan for you—both here and now, and for eternity. Rick Warren will guide you through a personal 40-day spiritual journey that will transform your answer to life’s most important question: What on earth am I here for? Knowing God’s purpose for creating you will reduce your stress, focus your energy, simplify your decisions, give meaning to your life, and, most importantly, prepare you for eternity.

This recording offers a blueprint for Christian living in the 21st century—a lifestyle based on God’s eternal purposes, not cultural values. Using over 1,200 scriptural quotes and references, it challenges the conventional definitions of worship, fellowship, discipleship, ministry, and evangelism. In the tradition of Oswald Chambers, Rick Warren offers distilled wisdom on the essence of what life is all about. Full of hope and challenge, The Purpose-Driven Life will be a classic treasured by generations to come.

I had always wanted to read this book. So, when it was available to me as cd I was thrilled. Until I started listening to it. In chapter 5 I was told that "Since I had been born again...". I was surprised that I was never aware this was a "born again" book. I was born once, given life through my parents from god. I believe being "born again" just gives you an excuse because you have "had fun" & messed up your life so bad that you lost faith and need to find your way back again. I have been through some tough times in my life just like everyone has, but I always knew god was there for me, and it was always my choice to be there with him. I know many "born again" Christians and they attend different churches. I'm really tired of them bragging about things they did before they were "reborn" (drugs, drinking). They are still doing these or other bad things but it's okay now because they're saved. I would rather live my life as a good Christian trying to do good.

It was very hard to follow all the information read. The book is designed to be read daily for 40 days and it not practical to keep the CD's for 40 days.

This was not helpful to me. Too many scriptures and not enough useful knowledge. I only made it through a few discs.

I sent both parts back halfway through the first CD. I am a spiriitual person and while I expected the strong connection to faith and God, I was extremely turned off when the author tells me that God has planned everything from the day you were born until you die. I cannot believe God would deliberately choose people to experience the horrors that so many people and children do. The fatalistic belief that everything has been mapped out, is not for me.

Better Read than Heard

First of all, this may be better digested by reading over 40 days as suggested rather than listening to it all at once. While it was very inspiring at first, it dawned on me that the same guy who is advising me that material things are not important is making millions off of this book. The message would be more meaningful if he didn't charge for it. Study of the lessons in this book are better sought at church.

Something Missing

Let me first say that I am a 100% Jesus freak! That being said, I was a little disappointed with this book. The content certainly rang true and the scripture references were good, but there was just something missing. I think this is a good book for someone who is living the middle income American life and is asking them self what is this all for. However, when I think of Christians who are being persecuted in China reading this book, I don't sense that their questions regarding purpose would be answered. This book is light and geared toward the mainly Sunday Christian who wants more...not for the hard rock Jesus follower who is out there fighting the spiritual battle and getting beat up by the world. The book had some good points and I am glad I read it, but if you are really looking for something to increase your faith and to give you the strength to continue to fight the good fight...I would stick to the Bible.

I found it very difficult to get through the first CD, just it was too much hearing God and Jesus mentioned in every sentence. I think there were some good points but just too many religious references for my personal taste.

I'm not a religious person and it's just so hard when I heard "God" at the beginning of every sentence in the beginning of the book. There are some great points but not enough for me to get through another 10 minutes.

Best book in 2 years

This is the best book that I have read in the last 2 years. It took a little effort to get through the Jesus/God talk at first as I don't think of myself as that religious. It has changed my life and once I bought the hard copy I read it 50 times and underlined all the best stuff.
