Overview

In the nation's varied memory, Robert Kennedy is a contradictory figure, a hard-bullying McCarthyite obsessed with Hoffa and Castro but also a gentle, poetry-reading herald of a new age bent on stopping the Vietnam War and lifting up the poor. As Evan Thomas ( The Wise Men and Man to See ) writes, both liberals and conservatives have their own spin on his legacy, with predictably different visions of what he would have done if he had lived to be our 37th president.

Having lived through this time as a teen ager but not paying much attention to politics, I felt this book took me back and filled me in. While I was never a big fan of RFK, what amazes me is the collosal problems and situations he dealt with....truly world shaping events......so many siginificant issues in so short a time.He was a man of tremendous endurance and while not agreeing with a lot of what he did, I admire him for accomplishing what he did.

Great

What a great history lesson. I've always liked RFK the most of any Kennedy. This book went a long way in describing what a complex person RFK was and why he was complex. My only complaint is the way the narrator changed his voice when quoting women. It was very irritating and made EVERY woman seem meek and subservient.

Outstanding! Well researched and written, this book presents a very balanced view of RFK. Mr. Thomas has the ability to make the characters come to life and give the reader the feeling of being present as events unfold. Highly recommended.
