Overview

When four strange, and strangely talented, youngsters are brought to Winding Circle by master mage Niko they find themselves drawn together in a Circle of Magic--a circle that binds them despite their differences. Tamora Pierce, America's most popular writer of young adult fantasy novels, weaves her own special magic in the opening volume of her wildly popular Circle of Magic quartet. Tammy herself narrates this recording, supported by a cast of nearly thirty actors, including Bruce Coville appearing as Niko. The rich web of voices bring this intricate story to life in a way that listeners will never forget.

I recently read this book and found it riveting. upon listening to the audio book however the book becomes annoying. The readers do a terrible job and after a while start to grate in your ears.

Reader is not good

I did not like this audio book. Don’t get me wrong I love this series and this book. In fact I own all of Tamora Pierce’s books and really enjoy her writing. But the audio version is really bad. It is nice having a full cast read their parts, and I do not agree with some reviews... I could follow which person was talking (except for Sandry’s and Tris’ voices they were too similar). But the real complaint I have is that the main narrator is really really bad a reading books. I’m better at it that she is! Have you ever had to sit through a speech that was badly READ...the person dryly reading the words with no inflection and all the pauses in the wrong places? Well this was like that! UGG!

the story is a little difficult to follow initially as the names of people and places are so foreign - however as the characters come to life and draw the listener into the story.....we were hooked - my daughters and i listen to a lot of books when we are on road trips - and this one was voted the best since harry potter...move over j.k. rowling! the interaction of the 4 central characters is so true to life and captures the high and low points of sibling-like relationships. also the full cast audio really adds to the enjoyment. very family friendly story - and entertaining for adults and children alike.

The Full Cast Audio crew brings this tale to life. Along with the others in the series it is a fine mystery in a world where magic is as common place as the auto mobile is to us. As a writer of young adults stories I enjoyed every minute. I am looking forward to listening to more for this author.

Not worth it

This set of books is read by a cast of actors, and for the most part they are very bad. It is very hard to follow as it switches from one actor to the next, as well as a narrator. Try Pierce's Trickster's series: Trickster's Choice & Trickster's Queen. Those both are great audio books!

Found this one too difficult to follow all of the characters and who they were without really concentrating. Not a good one to use when traveling as I do.
