Former CIA agent Robert Baer explains how Washington has sold its soul to Saudi Arabia. He supports with facts a twisted circular dance with the devil. America makes the House of Saud fabulously wealthy by buying their oil. Then Saudis use our money for insidious purposes. First, the Royals exploit their riches instead of putting it to good use alleviating poverty and improving infrastructure in their country. Next they buy security to protect their throne spending billions supporting radical Wahabi Islamic clerics. The Wahab's in turn teach hatred of the West and sponsor terrorists. Finally, the Saudi family covers their tracks buying off American public relations firms, lobbists and various campaign coffers. Americans remain either ignorant or indifferent to the truth and continue buying Arab oil, lining the pockets of those who hate us. Not only are we sleeping with the devil, we are asleep at the wheel!
These are the stories you never hear from the Press. This is what we need to know but few people want to (or are able to) tell the story.
This was a pretty good book. It covers some of the same material as "Hatred's Kingdom". The information about the possible demise of the House of Saud was very interesting. We'll see if it comes true. I recommend this book to anyone seeking additional information on the history of the middle east and the USA's involvement with that region of the world.
