Overview

After finding out about a horrible murder in the family of his half brother, Rabbi Jonathan Levin, LAPD detective Peter Decker and his wife Rina Lazarus set out for New York to assist in the investigation. It seems that the rabbi's brother-in-law was found slain in a seedy hotel room in upper Manhattan, and the victim's 15-year-old niece, with whom he was spending the day, is missing. But what starts out as a routine inquiry soon turns into a twisted and perilous journey through the darkened slums of New Jersey and the deserted industrial streets of New York. Thrust into a deadly maze of deceit, lies, and danger, the couple find that they can no longer trust anyone—friend or family—and that salvation can only be delivered by a depraved lone wolf, hell-bent on his own personal vengeance.

Tedious at times

I listened to the abridged version and found it to be tedious to listen to details that really didn't add that much to the mystery. I did finish the book but I will probably not read another of her books.

Liked the reader and the story; exciting from beginning to end. As always, good characters.

It's been a long time since I've had the chance to sit down with a Decker / Lazarus novel. In that sense, it was a warm, pleasant return to some old friends. Contrary to the description of the narrator of this book, I wasn't terribly fond of him. Sure, he tried to stay true to the emotions behind each character (somewhat), but it was very hard to determine which character was speaking much of the time. He needs work there. The story itself was good. Not one of her best works, not one of her worst either. Overall, an fun ride - especially if you are familiar with the Decker family.

Great! Good plot. Couldn't let it go. Was 1/2 way though it on Friday night and I couldn't wait until Monday, so I brought it into the house to finish on Saturday!

This book was a bit boring ....more than 50% of the time. Had a hard time keeping interested. Just ho hum..sigh...maybe it was because I am not Jewish. Would not recommend it to a friend.

You have to pay attention or you'll be lost. Amid a plethora of characters from a multitude of cultures, a detective who is part of two groups, yet feels apart from both, investigates a family murder. There's danger all around and old enemies to be reckoned with. Intriguing details and detailed characterizations. Very enjoyable.

This was a new author for me. The culture that was intertwined within the plot was informative. The story line was fine with some unusual surprises. Over all the book was quick and easily to listen to while doing other activities. If you missed a line or two it was easy to know what was going on. I would like to read other books by this author for fun.
