Overview

Gloria Medes is single and thirty-six, and secretly and somewhat hopelessly in love with her oblivious boss. He is both single and solitary, and far too old for her, but she has worked for him for ten oddly companionable years. But when he disappears on his annual trip to Mexico--the one aspect of his life to which she's never been privy--Gloria's impulsive search for him reveals the wreckage of a hidden past. As Gloria travels a twisted road into Carl Perreira's history, she realizes she might not have known him at all. Her investigation discloses as much about her own life as it does about her mysterious boss--and leaves her fighting for her life.

Suspenseful

This is a gripping mystery. It's not slow or boring, it's smart. There's plenty of action and a plot full of unpredictable twists and turns. The characters are fascinating. I've read all of Jesse Kellerman's books. The Genius is his best but this is a good second.

Slow

Very slow moving with appealing characters and a "so what" ending.

BORING

Wow was this book boring. The characters, the plot (what little of it there is), even the ending were just awful. The only reason I gave it two stars was that the narrator was wonderful. But don't waste your time - this one is a snore.
