Overview

A beloved legend of all time, Pyle's The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood tells the compelling tale of the brave, good-humored outlaw and his cohorts Friar Tuck, Little John, and Will Scarlet, as they cavort about Sherwood Forest.

However, it is not all sport. Robin Hood and his band must also outwit the villainous Sheriff of Nottingham who will stop at nothing to rid the forest of the outlaw.

Jolly old Robin!

As the previous two reviewers stated, this book was a delight. I commute a few hours each day and I found myself wandering through Sherwood forest having a merry and gay old time awaiting my next adventure! The narrator is superb and the old english is a breath of fresh air. It would be good to note that this book is made up of numerous stories that run together and make up a large singular storyline, but they also stand quite well on their own. Wonderful literature, and a great way to escape!

A merry book indeed

A delight - an absolute delight. Wonderfully presented and read. I defy you to get to the end of this and not be tucking a few "prithee good sirrah"s into your conversation. The rhythm and tempo of the language is magical, the stories are a hoot - and the legend is fascinating.

The Real Robin Hood

I never knew all those movies about Robin Hood hood were based on such a classic. Done in Shakespearean English the narrarator puts color and fun into every character. Many of the stories are similar to each other, yet I couldn't stop listening for hours on end. The last few chapters were especially exciting and the unforgettable epilogue might just make you cry. Anyone who has ever had a fascination with Robin Hood should listen to this one.

Pyle, Howard

"Howard Pyle (March 5, 1853-November 9, 1911) was an American illustrator and writer, primarily of books for young audiences. A native of Wilmington, Delaware, he spent the last year of his life in Florence, Italy, where he died.

In 1894 he began teaching illustration, and after 1900 founded a school, where his students included N.C. Wyeth.

His 1883 classic The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood remains in print to this day, and his other books, frequently with mediaeval European settings, included a four-volume set on King Arthur that cemented his reputation."
