Bit Old Fashioned

This book is set in the forties, maybe early fifties. The premise is all the kids get pocket money every week, but not enough to do much with. So, every Saturday they pool their money and one of them gets to do something special - framework narrative. It's cute, but unrealistic. I'm not sure if a ten year old girl could go to downtown Manhattan alone to see an opera, even in the forties. It's a bit old fashioned by modern standards. By far the most entertaining parts are when the time period slips in," like my personal favorite. "That blot on the ceiling looks exactly like Hitler." "Well that's no good. Throw up some ink so it doesn't look like him anymore." "Good, now it looks like George Bernard Shaw. Much better."

My kids and I loved this story. It was fun listening to the adventures of those from long ago.
