As with Pt 1 of Morris's Biography of Roosevelt, Harry Chase is again the narrator for Theodore Rex. As with Pt 1, I find Chase's narration too theatrical for my tastes. And while I still prefer David McCullough's biography of Roosevelt, his bio stops at about the same spot as Pt. 1 of Morris's biography, so this title covered new territory for me. I am unsure if it were due to the Abridgement of the title or not, but I can't help feeling that this title, as with Pt 1, glosses over each topic, rather than delving into details, which made me feel like I was reading the Cliff Notes on Roosevelt's life, rather than an actual bio. Perhaps that's being unfair. Still... overall, I did enjoy the read.
Awesome! This ought to be required reading for every student of history and every public official. The narration was exemplary, the writing fantastic and the subject matter could not have been more interesting.
If you wanted to learn more about one of the great presidents in US History listen to this book. I truly enjoyed listening to this and would recommend it to others.
I thought this was a very artfully written book. The author presents a great many details, but he always uses them toward some purpose. There is much material, but the pace is not plodding or slow. The long "official" review above echoes my sentiments about this book very well.
A little long. I cant imagine what the unabridged version is like. I did feel like the author jumped from topic to topic a bit too much.
The content is tremendous -- a great picture of TR and his era. The reading is animated. It was a bit over-the-top when even one- or two-word quotes are read in the Teddy Roosevelt voice.
The reader makes TR sound like Space Ghost and his ethnic accents of Southerners, blacks, etc, are especially annoying. In this reading all Southerners sound like Foghorn Leghorn.
Not as good as the Rise of Teddy Roosevelt but excellent nonethless!
