Preview: New Year, New You!

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

I’ve managed to pull myself out of my turkey coma and back to work– at least for the next few days. Tomorrow is new year’s eve, and I have been thinking a lot about my goals for the new year. (Actually, that’s a lie. I don’t ever make new year’s resolutions because I tend to always break them, and then feel bad about it which only fuels the fire of my winter blahs.)

Like our new office?

Note ALL the snow– evidently we’re not just dreaming of a white Christmas. But I hear even if you’re in Las Vegas or Malibu, you’re still seeing the white stuff. A fact which, I must admit, makes us Canadians so very happy. We laughed so hard when we heard the news that the heat from our breath partially melted the walls of our igloos!

Since you’re likely not used to getting weather like this (not that you ever really get used to it, trust us…) we’ve got a few tips to help you survive the snow:

5. Catch up on the Simply Audioblog entries. Good times!

4. Build a snowman and dress him up as your favorite audio book character.

3. Stay in and listen to audio books. (duh!)

2. Grab yourself a glass of snow and Baileys liquor, but be sure to avoid the yellow stuff.

1. Successfully finish your holiday shopping online! Simply Audiobooks gift cards are unique last minute gifts– starting from just $17.98, it’s a gift for every budget!

A Good Year For Obama

Thursday, December 18th, 2008

On top of winning the presidential election, and on top of having 2 bestselling books that are still next to impossible to keep on the shelf, and on top of his self-narrated audio book Audacity of Hope winning a Grammy this year for Best Spoken Word Album (his 2nd Grammy – he won his first in  2006 for Dreams From My Father), Barack Obama has just been named Time’s Person of the Year.

Not a bad year Barack. Not a bad year.

A Song of Ice and Fire

Wednesday, December 17th, 2008

I’m a big non-fiction buff. Give me some true crime, a dictionary, anything on Afghanistan and I’ll be locked in my room, not to be seen for days. I like to mix it up on occasion with a good fiction book, but I don’t often venture out of those genres. Sure, I see lots of members renting and downloading Sci-Fi, Romance, and Suspense titles that look interesting, but I still tend to stick to what I know I like.

So, when a friend recently coerced me into reading a fantasy book, I wasn’t sure what to expect. And when I googled the author and saw that he looked like a New England fisherman, I had my doubts. But, I sucked it up and hoped for the best.

The book, A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin is the first of 7 planned novels in the series A Song of Ice and Fire . It’s set in a medieval-ish era and I am addicted.

I just finished the second book and haven’t gotten the 3rd yet and I miss it. Like I’d miss my right arm if it wasn’t there. It’s the kind of book where I will skip supper and crawl into bed at 5 so I can spend the night reading. The kind of book that I want to make people read so we can pretend to be princesses, or knights, or princess knights. And we would talk about dragonglass and Valyrian steel, how ‘Winter is coming’ and when, for the love of gods old and new, is someone going to kill Joffrey and Cersei?

So, read the books and let’s talk. I need someone to discuss the fate of the Seven Kingdoms with.

We Moved!

Monday, December 15th, 2008

We’re in the home-stretch of moving our office. It appears everything is here, but in what box is anyone’s guess. If anyone has any of the white garbage bags, let me know!

Thankfully we’ve got our audio books. It makes unpacking waaaayyyy more interesting. They also help to drown out the cursing of the employees who haven’t yet been able to find all their stuff.
