Julie and Julia

In theatres tomorrow, Julie and Julia follows the lives of two different women separated by time and space, but both at loose ends. Now, normally this is where I would tell you that as usual, the movie is better than the book. However, Meryl Streep is amazing. And, from the previews I’ve seen she manages to totally transform herself into the famous chef.
But, score one for the audio book – it’s written and narrated by the original Julie. The woman who truly haunted the local butcher and sent her husband out at all hours for butter, butter and more butter. (Really, what doesn’t butter make better?) You’ll get to hear her story in her own voice, something that I think makes audio books very special.
Yet the movie, it stars Meryl Streep and she’s awesome. You know she’s awesome.
This truly is a movie – book grudge match and choosing a winner seems too tough to call. In my opinion, for Meryl’s performance alone, the movie’s worth checking out. But of course you should listen to the audio book too. You know, just for good measure.

William Frederick Cody, known as Buffalo Bill, is one of the great icons of the pioneer years in the early American West. His exploits provide much insight into the life on the plains, with its Indians, cowboys, rough riders and overall rugged existence. You are sure to enjoy this selection of entertaining stories from the Old West, written by the Honorable William F Cody.
