Audiobooks: Turning the Print into Story-telling Voices

Audiobooks: Turning the Print into Story-telling Voices

I could never put down how amazing printed books are – it’s always fascinating being able to imagine the voices and sounds of a story.

But unlike print, audiobooks possess a unique ability to bring a story to life through story-telling voices that offer a whole new level of emotion, of defining characters, and of reader’s experience.

Did you know? Hearing the words vs. reading the words allow your brain to experience the story with a higher level of focus: your brain does not have to decipher the letters, words, punctuation, or sentence structure that only text possesses. Eliminating these mental processes associated with this allows us to be conscious of the sounds and rhythms we otherwise wouldn’t be able to notice. It’s the audio that offers a unique enhancement to storytelling.

Don’t get me wrong – reading words is highly beneficial too. But for a completely different reading experience, an audiobook offers something unique and beautiful that you have to hear for yourself to fully understand.

If you haven’t already – try for yourself today by renting or downloading one of your favorite titles on Simply Audiobooks.

Happy Listening.

Oprah’s Favourite Books from the Past Decade

Thursday, May 13th, 2010

Last night I was trying to find great audiobooks for any reader to enjoy. Oprah’s book club provided me with a top ten meaningful books, published back in April. Here are my top five Simply Audiobooks offers!

“When we asked Oprah to pick…books she’s read in the past decade that have mattered to her most, she [offered] a sampler of delightful titles that have…managed to teach her – and all of us – a few things”

On the list are:

  1. The Poisonwood Bible – Barbara Kingsolver Rent Today
  2. Night – Elie Wiesel Rent Today
  3. The Pillars of the Earth – Ken Follett Rent Today
  4. The Bluest Eye – Toni Morrison Rent or Download Today
  5. The Known World – Edward P. Jones Rent or Download Today

Of these five, my favourite is definitely Ken Follett’s, The Pillars of the Earth. Listen as the story takes you through the passage of time where friends and enemies are forged, and violence takes its toll.

Here’s the link. Enjoy!

Sadly, the actor behind the flawless beauty of Edward Cullen does in fact age. But Simply Audiobooks would like to extend a Happy Birthday to Robert Pattinson – who today, on May 13th 2010 – has turned 24!

The world is sitting in painful anticipation as we await the theatrical release of Eclipse, coming to theaters June 30, 2010 based on the book Eclipse from the Twilight saga by Stephanie Meyer.

10 Benefits of Reading Books With Your Ears

10 Benefits of Reading Books With Your Ears

If you are already a fan of audiobooks, you will have already experienced a lot of the benefits they have to offer. But there are also a lot of benefits you may not have seen before, and you may even be able to add your own!

What benefits have you found while using audiobooks? Become a fan on our Facebook page and post your response.

1. Audiobooks save you time and help you pass the time
You can now listen to a novel on your commute, while traveling, or anything. Audio books will help entertain your brain while doing something, and will actually save you time as you now can read virtually anywhere!

2. Audiobooks make reading more accessible
Those who are visually impaired, older, ill, or even those who are not strong readers can still enjoy almost any book that their heart desires.

3. Audiobooks are educational
Offering life enrichment, lessons, and entertainment.

4. Audiobooks improve literacy and vocabulary, especially for children
For children, audiobooks do not need to match a child’s reading level. They can be exposed to books of a higher reading level without even having to see the words so they can be exposed to them and gain an understanding of them and their pronunciation. All without the frustration of getting stuck on that difficult word!

5. Audiobooks save paper!

6. Audiobooks emphasize emotion
Reading a novel with your ears versus your eyes gives you the best understanding of the emotion that is being conveyed through the text by the narrator and characters conveying the intended emotion through their voices and their timing.

7 . Audiobooks are one of the most effective ways of learning a new language
No more guessing of how a word should be pronounced, hear it correctly the first time and learn the language in one of the most effective methods possible.

8. Audiobooks can allow groups to listen all at once and bring groups together
Imagine your family on the drive to the cottage. Instead of one person hogging the book the whole way up or getting tired while reading it aloud, your family can experience the same story all at once and talk about points of discussion.

9. Audiobooks are portable
You can take them anywhere with you, especially if you have an mp3 download – you can put it on your ipod and literally go anywhere and read. (On a run, while mowing your lawn or gardening, cleaning the house, anything).

10. Audiobooks sometimes have their own author narrate them
Giving you the best connection possible to the novel, the author, and the intended message.

Search for your favorite books on Simply Audiobooks today to experience these benefits for yourself.

10-10-10: A Life Transforming Idea

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010

10-10-10 – by Suzy Welch

Making big decisions in life affects all that is around us, and that can be a scary thought. No matter who you are – you will be making decisions in this life, and it can be intimidating. But we cannot be scared of the unknown when making decisions.

Suzy Welch teachers her readers how to carefully plan out good decision-making and its effects in 10 minutes, 10 months, and 10 years.

Welch discusses how it is time for us to live a life lead by ourselves, and to leave behind the impulses, distractions, and stresses that we immerse ourselves in. Replace all the negative side effects associated with decision making with positive emotions and outlooks. Eventually, decision-making may not be as terrifying as we make it out to be.

Narrated by Suzy Welch herself, download or rent this audio book to hear for yourself this transforming idea!
