Happy Accidents – A Review of Jane Lynch’s Journey to a Gleeful Life

When I think of Jane Lynch I immediately picture a tall woman in a brightly colored track suit, terrorizing the halls of McKinley High. It’s hard to not think of Sue Sylvester upon hearing Jane Lynch’s voice, although older Jane Lynch fans may also be picturing a very confident Joyce Wischnia.

When I started listening to her memoir, it was hard to believe how shy she was as a teenager. She had lots of determination, but possessed very little self-confidence. Her touching story of longing to fit in and become an actress had me captivated. What teenager didn’t feel shy or didn’t worry about not being liked at one point or another?

You can watch this short video of Jane promoting her memoir to Canada to get a feel for what the audio book is like:

Jane tells the tale of all the Happy Accidents that lead up to her fame as an actress and her loving family. Her struggle with alcohol addiction, coming to terms with her sexuality and finding true love are honestly told in this audio book. While it may not have been the laugh-out-loud funny story I was expecting, I had a smile on my face and couldn’t stop giggling at the small quips and sarcastic wit evident throughout.

Having Jane narrate the novel was wonderful. Hearing the story through her words made me feel like I was experiencing all the ups and down right there with her. Many Glee and The L Word fans will pick up this audio book simply because it features Jane Lynch; but I recommend it for anyone who has longed to be themselves and to be loved for just that.

Relish in Everything Magical – A Review of The Night Circus

With so much buzz around The Night Circus, I had to hear this story for myself. And I’m not the only one; three of us from the office were so excited about this story that we have finished the audio book already!

Hear what the Simply Audiobooks team has to say:

“It’s a perfect combination of eloquent language, interesting characters and a wondrous setting to create a dreamlike state that you will not want to wake up from. And to add the cherry on top of this sundae, this book is read by Jim Dale. If that is not enough to make you want to pick up this book, I don’t know what else will.” – Pam

“Remember the first time you had a candy apple, the first time you sat on a carousel? The Night Circus adds magic to those moments and takes you on a journey that is truly a feast for the senses. You’ll get lost in the excitement and wonderment of it all and get giddy from the scents of candy and cinnamon that you’ll believe waft through the air as you read.” – Allie

For me, I was captivated with the first few lines. I couldn’t stop listening for anything. I listened on my commute, while I made dinner, while I cleaned and I didn’t stop listening well past my bedtime just so I could hear the ending. Let me tell you, this story is wonderful.

Erin Morgenstern creates a wildly whimsical and deliciously detailed world as a back drop for the illusionists’ duel and forbidden romance that takes place. Jim Dale does a wonderful job bringing this world to life and giving a voice to its eclectic cast of characters.

For many of you who have been following our blog or news about the audio book, the question still remains: How does it compare to Harry Potter? There are a few similarities since there is a focus on magic; however, The Night Circus is very different. First of all, it is a stand-alone book and will not be part of a long series, unlike Harry Potter this story revolves around love and romance, it also has an older cast and was written for an older audience. But, I must say that it is a very unique and wonderful tale nonetheless that is worth every second of your time. Go ahead, put on your headphones and get lost in Le Cirque des Rêves.

10 Benefits of Reading Books With Your Ears

If you are already a fan of audiobooks, you will have already experienced a lot of the benefits they have to offer. But there are also a lot of benefits you may not have seen before, and you may even be able to add your own!

What benefits have you found while using audiobooks? Become a fan on our Facebook page and post your response.

1. Audiobooks save you time and help you pass the time
You can now listen to a novel on your commute, while traveling, or anything. Audio books will help entertain your brain while doing something, and will actually save you time as you now can read virtually anywhere!

2. Audiobooks make reading more accessible
Those who are visually impaired, older, ill, or even those who are not strong readers can still enjoy almost any book that their heart desires.

3. Audiobooks are educational
Offering life enrichment, lessons, and entertainment.

4. Audiobooks improve literacy and vocabulary, especially for children
For children, audiobooks do not need to match a child’s reading level. They can be exposed to books of a higher reading level without even having to see the words so they can be exposed to them and gain an understanding of them and their pronunciation. All without the frustration of getting stuck on that difficult word!

5. Audiobooks save paper!

6. Audiobooks emphasize emotion
Reading a novel with your ears versus your eyes gives you the best understanding of the emotion that is being conveyed through the text by the narrator and characters conveying the intended emotion through their voices and their timing.

7 . Audiobooks are one of the most effective ways of learning a new language
No more guessing of how a word should be pronounced, hear it correctly the first time and learn the language in one of the most effective methods possible.

8. Audiobooks can allow groups to listen all at once and bring groups together
Imagine your family on the drive to the cottage. Instead of one person hogging the book the whole way up or getting tired while reading it aloud, your family can experience the same story all at once and talk about points of discussion.

9. Audiobooks are portable
You can take them anywhere with you, especially if you have an mp3 download – you can put it on your ipod and literally go anywhere and read. (On a run, while mowing your lawn or gardening, cleaning the house, anything).

10. Audiobooks sometimes have their own author narrate them
Giving you the best connection possible to the novel, the author, and the intended message.

Search for your favorite books on Simply Audiobooks today to experience these benefits for yourself.

10-10-10 – by Suzy Welch

Making big decisions in life affects all that is around us, and that can be a scary thought. No matter who you are – you will be making decisions in this life, and it can be intimidating. But we cannot be scared of the unknown when making decisions.

Suzy Welch teachers her readers how to carefully plan out good decision-making and its effects in 10 minutes, 10 months, and 10 years.

Welch discusses how it is time for us to live a life lead by ourselves, and to leave behind the impulses, distractions, and stresses that we immerse ourselves in. Replace all the negative side effects associated with decision making with positive emotions and outlooks. Eventually, decision-making may not be as terrifying as we make it out to be.

Narrated by Suzy Welch herself, download or rent this audio book to hear for yourself this transforming idea!

Let Bone Thief Steal You Away

Bone Thief – by Jefferson Bass

Lose yourself in this hair-pulling, nail-biting, eye-widening thriller. If you are a fan of forensic fiction and find yourself watching shows like CSI, you won’t want to miss listening to this book.

In this novel, forensic anthropologist Dr. Bill Brockton discovers the unthinkable. While about to take a routine bone test upon the opening of a casket, Dr. Brockton is shocked to find that the corpse was violated in the most gruesome and twisted of ways. This discovery leads to the unfolding of the body part underground market – and at its core you can find the bone thief.

Dr. Brockton is faced with a rare issue when he discovers that a friend could lose his hands – and his career – after exposure to radio activity. Unless he can find new hands soon – he will be out of options. Where does Dr. Brockton draw the line? Help out a friend and go against his own principles? Will he be able to live with the fact that he helped his friend out in the most disturbing of ways, or will he be able to live with the fact that he didn’t help him at all?

A real bone-chiller. If you love thrillers – you can’t afford to not have Bone Thief steal you away as you listen to this audio book.
