Overview

In the final chapter of The Godfather, Mario Puzo writes: “The bloody victory of the Corleone Family was not complete until a year of delicate political maneuvering established Michael Corleone as the most powerful Family in the United States.”

The Godfather Returns begins in 1955, with the story of that “year of delicate political maneuvering.” Author Mark Winegardner vividly brings to life the missing parts in the story of the Family Corleone by describing the events between the end of Puzo’s Godfather and the beginning of Francis Ford Coppola’s movie sequels.

Too many similar names.

The writer throws too many names out in this book without establishing enough story line for the reader to know who they are or what's going on. Michael isn't even the main character, it was Fredo, and he's just not who I wanted to know more about. This could have been done better.

Very entertaining. The characters are very true to the original Puzo novel. Fast paced and enjoyable. The ending was a bit disappointing, but I would still recommend this book to anyone who enjoyed The Godfather.

Not a Classic, but pretty good

Well it was not a masterpiece like Puzo - who I LOVE - but it was a great story with all your favorite characters. Love the tradition, loyalty and honor of that genre. A must read for any mafia fan
