The narrator does an amazing job of story telling, as always Straub comes thru with a good listen. I am very happy with the book and have listened to it a few times.
Don\'t let the prologue fool you. This book is very boring! So much so that I had to stop listening. I eventually forced myself to finish it, and was disappointed. I suppose at one time this was a great book but in my opinion it does not stand the test of time. I also found the narrator flat; he made it difficult to connect to these characters.
I thought it was very well done. I had seen the movie a number of years ago and liked it so was excited to listen to the book.
I cant tell you how great this book was. I told my mom I was listening to this one and she said she remembered it as being the scariest thing she ever read. It was able to grab your attention from the start and never let it go. I couldn't wait to start driving again the next night to get back to the story. THE Narrator was great which Im learning being new to the audio world makes a huge difference in the success of the book or the total flop. He kept my attention just as much as the story did. So MAnY characters normally could be a problem but not with this author or story teller. You follow right along in that regard. IT was by far the most interesting story ever to me. ITs a long story too so if you have to travel a ways and have plenty of good quite time to indulge yourself GET IT AND YOU WILL LOVE IT!!!!!! Now because I just rented and enjoyed it soooo much I feel like I could only benefit in Buying it for keeps and relistening to it again.
I could not get into this book AT ALL! It is very slow starting out and I lost interest.
This was a pretty long, drawn out tale, but it was fairly worth it. It got a bit repetitive and dull in spots, but it kept me going for the most part. The characters are drawn well and you become attached to a few and hope they make it to the end. The atmosphere is pretty well detailed, but I think I could have done with a bit more description. The ending is fitting and well done. Not too far-fetched or depressing, but not terribly happy either. All in all, it was a good read!
