Billy Graham has always been someone who I respected, after listening to this book I know why. It was hard to listen to and seemed to drag at times; the reading almost put me to sleep. But getting past that, his story is amazing. His family is amazing and his influence with so many administrations and Presidents is more than probably any other preacher will ever experience. The work he will leave behind will go on and on. Just as I am is about a wonderful life and faith. He is non judgmental and shows only love. I loved learning about a man I have always respected.
Recently I listened to this audio book and was intrigued by Dr. Graham's life story. Generally speaking most people would agree when asked that if anyone would go to heaven it would be Dr. Graham. Of course, all Christians would reply that all that accept Jesus as Savior will also have a home in heaven and that will be the truth but Dr. Graham accentuates this truth in his book. If anything, Dr. Graham's story assures us that we do not have to be a great pastor or preach the Gospel to millions in order to earn a seat in heaven. Despite all the great that he has accomplished, Dr. Graham correctly states that all "his righteous acts are but filthy rags before God". It is through faith in Jesus that we are saved from sin. God loves us and will save all that call on His son Jesus just as we are. This is a great book about a great man with a great message. Highly recommended by this listener.
Long and somewhat plodding, though does tell an interesting story of an amazing man.
I am intrigued by Graham, and if one isn't (and I don't know why you'd rent this if you weren't) then this has nothing for you. The story isn't very well told. Some of the individual pieces are good, but as a whole it is just a string of events and people. I think the narration contributes to that. I like Cliff Barrows as a music and/or worship leader, but as a book narrator he is not good. The reading moves in a VERY staccato type pace. IT- ALMOST - CREEPS - AT - TIMES. Beyond that, there is some repetition. Graham reminds us MANY times that he spent most of his ministry with "regular people" yet the whole story is about the "famous" people. Graham's story is an interesting one, but this telling didn't do it justice. I listened to the whole set of discs, but wouldn't again!
This book had a lot of facts about Billy G's life and it was comforting to know that such a great man had such great struggles. At times, us smaller people think it only happens in our lives, but he suffered a lot of challenges in his career. His family sacrificed their time with him so he could pursue his dreams and performs God's work - that was hard to hear.
