Ugh! Horrible book. I could not get through the 5th disc. So utterly boring. This won an award? Gag me!
Great fun. Huge amounts of wisdom in the portrait of academic and family life. Brilliant, compelling characters. Charming short poem, as written by the poetry teacher at the university, from which the book takes its title. Succeeds on all fronts. But made all the more wonderful by the narration. He plays a dozen characters, black and white, young and old, all with different accents (British, Jamaican, "street", etc.), every one convincing and distinct.
An engaging story that was well written and well narrated.
So this is a very entertaining, highly intellectualized melodrama based on Foresters' "Howards End." I very much enjoyed the academic landscape and the who's sleeping with who machinations. Fun stuff. I brought the CD's in from the car and played them at night
