A Discovery of Witches

Most of the story is of a woman born into a family of famously powerful witches who doesn't seem to have the family traits. She has a little magic, but choses a life of an academic: historian of alchemy. At the story's start she is in Oxford checking out the original sources of the research she'd done in the States. One of those sources changes the world.

Romance Novel

If fantasy and romance novels are your thing, this is the book for you. It wasn't my thing. Also, you'll need a pretty big capacity to suspend disbelief, and the ability to avoid huge gaping plot holes.

I loved this book, and looked forward to driving every day so I could listen to it. It is a wonderful melange of science, magic, history and romance.

I like vampire and supernatural stuff. I thought the vampire end of things was well managed, but the alchemy stuff just wasn't convincing and wasn't well-developed enough. Our heroine's surrender to the strong manly hero seemed forced and stereotyped. Sorry-not engaged enough to want a sequel.

Witches & Discs

Loved Discovery of Witches - however just a note: there should be more than #10 discs...there should be #20. For awhile, I thought the book sure ended abruptly, until I realized that the set was short by some chapters. Make sure all the discs are in there, as it's such a wonderful story!

A very good reading, but I don't think they know what or where Seven Devils, NC, really is! Or what the accent is--it is a developed ski area in the western NC mountains.

I absolutely loved this book. The historical information along with the new twist on vampires, witches and demons made it very entertaining and interesting.

Although this book does start out a little slow, once it gets going the plot thickens and you find yourself enthralled in the story. Amazing character development and it is something you will want to relisten to multiple times! Excited to dive into the 2nd book of the trilogy!
