Well written, a little predictable

Ruth Rendell's crisp prose and vivid depictions of English countryside life pair well with the beloved Det. Wexford character. My only complaint about this novel was her overly pedantic focus on political correctness around a very important cultural issue (female genital mutilation) that she otherwise discussed sensitively and tied in neatly to the rest of the story. I also saw several plot twists coming while the usually bright Det. Wexford took several chapters to figure them out. A slight delay might be necessary to engineer the plot, but after a while, his lack of comprehension was not believable. Overall. a worthwhile read for a Rendell fan.

This is my first Ruth Randall book. I enjoyed it sort of reminds me PBS TV shows. My they do drink a lot of tea in this book. Was interesting to look at police work and laws from the British view. Story moved right along and the reader was very good.
