Overview

Five years ago, Matt Starks' drug addiction cost him his family, his job, everything. As bad off as he was, he could still tell that he was no longer able to care for Tara, the golden retriever puppy he had rescued and nursed back to health, so he took her to the shelter, which is where defense lawyer Andy Carpenter found her. Now, Matt has turned his life around. He's working as a counselor at the rehab clinic that saved him, and he has gotten his family back. Everything has been made right. That's until the police show up with charges of murder. Five years ago, a college student and daughter of a prominent businessman was killed in a fire. At the time, scientific techniques weren't sound enough to test the DNA and get conclusive results. But now they are, and the findings point right at Matt. Ellen, his wife, can't lose him again. Without the money to hire a top lawyer, she goes to Andy, but is there anything that he can do to save the man who saved Tara? Andy will have to pull out all of his tricks, both old and new, to get to the bottom of this cold case turned white hot.
