Overview

Jon Stewart, host of the Emmy and Peabody Award-winning "The Daily Show," and his coterie of patriots deliver a hilarious look at American government . . . Termed a "political king-maker" by Newsweek, and "the Dan Rather of infotainment" by Vanity Fair, Jon Stewart, along with the writers of "The Daily Show," combines his riotous wit and razor-sharp insight in this hilarious book.American-style democracy is the world's most beloved form of government, which explains why so many other nations are eager for us to impose it on them. But what is American democracy? In America (The Book), Jon Stewart and "The Daily Show" writing staff offer their insights into our unique system of government, dissecting its institutions, explaining its history and processes, and exploring the reasons why concepts like "One man, one vote," "Government by the people," and "Every vote counts" have become such popular urban myths.

Okay

I do like Jon Stewart, but this book is just 'okay.' I never really got "into" it. I listened to it, but I didn't really like it that much.

Not Jon's best work

I suppose if you are a huge Jon Stewart fan you might like this book. If you are not the scarcasm is a bit too much to bare and found it tended to droll on. I couldn't finish.

Quite funny

I found myself laughing out loud a couple times while listening to this short book. I love Jon Stewart and Steven Colbert... and this book did not disappoint.

A hoot

If you like the Daily Show, and the sort of satire on that show, then you will definitely enjoy this audio book. Jon takes a walk through the history of democracy, giving reverance to both the Greek and Roman societies; talks about the evolution of the American democracy; and what's around the corner. With guest appearances from a Canadian, this book was a great way to pass the time in LA traffic and learn a little something!

Stewart and Colbert are Gods!

Written by Dennis K on July 10th, 2008

  • Book Rating: 5/5

I always enjoy the delivery of both Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert along with their brilliant writers. Although it took a little while to get used to just listening to them as opposed to seeing them (facial expressions and breaks for laughter), it was a very good listen. As stated by many, a basic understanding of our government and history are a must. I assume it would be a bit tedious not knowing to what they are making jabs.

It's Your America - Take it or Leave it

If you are a fan of the Daily Show and the Colbert Report, you will love this tongue-in-cheek look at the formation of our nation and some pokes Founding Fathers and Mothers (FMILFs). Canadians beware, this book reveals way too much truth about your policital juggernaut also.

I usually like Jon Stewart, but I didn't think this was funny at all. I barely got through the first disk, then sent it back before finishing. Maybe it's just not within my sense of humor.

Not Stewart's Best

I couldn't even get through the first CD. I didn't find it funny at all, and in fact it was quite boring. Not worth it, if you like Stewart watch him on the daily show instead.

Love Jon Stewart

I love Jon Stewart though this book was hard for me to listen to. I don't believe it was the book though. It was me. Certain things I have to actually read and I believe this is one of them. I plan to do that since I found myself "zoning out" too many times. What I did hear and pay attention to I liked.

Not for those who take themselves too seriously

This is wonderfully fun for those who *get it*. I'm sure it's like a joke in a foreign language for those who don't know enough about American history to see what makes it funny. I laughed out loud repeatedly...it was cleverly crafted with tongue inserted firmly into cheek. I loved it!
