Overview

Mikhail Dubrinsky is the prince of his people, the Carpathians. But they are dying out, there are few women and the men are either falling prey to vampires or are choosing the soulless life. Losing all hope, Mikhail is no longer sure he can bear the bleak future laid before him. The only thing that can add light to his life, can relieve the terrible haunting loneliness, is to find a life mate. But he has given up believing one exists. As the beast rages inside, threatening to consume him, he vents his centuries-old despair in an anguished cry that fills the waning night...and then, incredulously, a life saving voice answers him.

Raven Whitney has a rare gift, she not only can read minds, but she can communicate telepathically. But her talent is not always a gift. Her job is to track the twisted mental paths of serial killers, and those evil thoughts drain her both mentally and physically. Now, she is hoping to heal and comes seeking a quiet escape in the Carpathian Mountains, but when she mentally hears the anguished cry at dawn, she can not ignore it...unaware that her life is about to change forever.

This was a good book for starting out the series. I liked how it introduced the different characters for this book and others to come.

I'm not a romance novel fan, but I love vampire stories. So, I thought I'd give this book a shot. OK, it's total cornball, romance, shlock, but I couldn't stop listening to it. Yes, there are some silly parts, but I really enjoyed it and am looking forward to the second one...

This is the first book in the series regarding Mikail and Raven. Mikail is the Prince of the Carpathians and he has lived centuries and his has lost hope of finding his lifemate. Despair and loneliness leads to finding what he needs most in his life to survive...his lifemate....she is not an immortal Carpathian but a mortal. Great story line and you will get hooked.

So much promise

I want to love these books. I really enjoy the story arc and I think it could stand on its own as a sci-fi/horror series without needing to resort to bodice ripping. I think Christine Feehan has created on of the most interesting and unique Vampire Mythos I have read. The more I listen to them the more I want to find out why the Carpathian population dying out. Unfortunately this series ends up being a cookie cutter romance that subscribes to the formula of once per CD have a sex scene. The sex scenes aren't even that erotic or interesting. As you delve into the series you'll find that each one is pretty much a copy and paste of the last one with a few words changed. It gets old quick. I'm only about 1/2 way through the series and I'm trying to decide do I listen to the rest or find a plot synopsis online and read that to find out what happens.

I thought this book was extremely corny, shlocky, and cheesey. The accents were atrocious, and the term "liitle one" was used way to much. Reccommended book for those who enjoy really bad vampire movies. This is my first review of a book.

Awesome Start
