An excellent biography. This books walks you through the experience of post partum depression and the horrible symptoms that one suffers so you get a real understanding of the pain and shame attached to this illness.
Wow! So emotional and fraught with tests of the spirit. I like that it was read by the author. She was able to put all the right inflections in all the right places. I have some experience with postpartum depression - so it brought back some memories. Rowan is a lucky little girl.
I highly recommend that all 1st time pregnant women read this book!! I could really relate to everything Brooke went through after going through my own PPD experiences. She tells it like it is. And listening to it helped me to come to terms in new ways I hadn't yet made peace with. Thanks Brooke for being so brave and writing this book!
I loved this book. Brooke really gets into this book when she reads it to you. You can imagine her while she reads it. I don't have kids yet and I thought that it was a really good book full of helpful hints/ thoughts about Postpartum Depression and that we are not alone. Wonderful book I would read it again
Incredibly personal revelations! It's amazing that Brooke Shields could disengage herself from the pain she went through to write this book. I would recommend it to any one who has a loved one who may be subject to post-partum depression to read before pregnancy. After reading this, at least you will know what to expect!
I enjoyed listening to this book. It reminded me of my own experiences with prgnancy and early motherhood. I found it enjoyable to listen to.
I wasn't impressed with the writing of this book, which seemed kind of trite and cliched at times. However, my hats off to Brooke Shields for writing it in the first place. I felt that she was very candid about what she went through and how hard the early months after birth can be. I thought she went a long way towards demystifying postpartum depression and hopefully lifting some of the taboo of talking about it.
Brooke really opens up about the process of pregnancy and mothering in a not so rosy light. She is very humorous and very normal. She was debilitated by depression and sought life-saving help. Tom Cruise should be ashamed of himself.
WOW, what a great book and kudos to Brooke Shields for telling her story. I pray that it will help the many women who suffer from post partum depression. Additionally I give Brooke credit for standing up for herself and these women when Tom Cruise has been spouting his opinion about this subject.
Brooke Shields began modeling and acting during childhood and went on to star in film, on television, and on Broadway. She graduated with honors from Princeton University and is the author of a memoir, the "New York Times" bestselling "Down Came the Rain", and a picture book, "Welcome to Your World, Baby", also illustrated by Cori Doerrfeld. Brooke lives with her husband, writer/producer Chris Henchy, and their daughters, Rowan and Grier, in Los Angeles.
