People don't write like this anymore. Elegant prose, spot on with the characterization, - wasn't Henry James' brother a psychologist (?) - well something must run in the family for the uncanny way you are given a glimpse into the soul. And not in a obvious reality TV oh-look-at-me way. A masterwork of character crafting, dialogue molding, emotional manipulation. Expect a nuanced story unfolding, place your bets on what is going to happen. Unlike more modern Jamesian wannabes, you won't be able to tell a mile off.
Great way to "read" Henry James. The narrator made the characters come alive.
Henry James is one of the greatest American novelists, and spent his last years in England. Among his numerous works are The Ambassadors and The Golden Bowl, his two masterpieces.
